Discovering Sherrone Moore’s transgressions that led to the shocking overhaul of the Michigan football program cost the university quite the pretty penny.

Michigan’s tab with an outside law firm that investigated the former Wolverines coach and the culture around the program has topped $11.5 million, according to the Detroit News.

The university reportedly hired Chicago-area law firm Jenner & Block on Nov. 13, 2025 to head the investigation, and the search closed in April.

It’s unsure if there are more charges to come, according to the report.

In March, the firm charged Michigan more than $2 million cumulatively in two invoices.

The first tab came in at $1,887,708.37 and the other for $173,339.50.

“The University of Michigan makes significant investments in athletics, which is a source of pride for our U-M community, and this investigation is being resourced to help strengthen our athletics program moving forward,” Michigan assistant vice president of public affairs and internal communications Paul Corliss told the Detroit News in February.

“Conducting a thorough legal review of complex and high stakes issues at a college or university requires significant time, specialized expertise and resources. In this case, the work involves two related but distinct efforts: a review concerning Sherrone Moore’s conduct and a broader assessment of the culture within the athletic department. The University is committed to ensuring both are handled with the seriousness, independence and care they require.”

The investigation led to massive changes within the program and Moore’s shocking exit on Dec. 10 and exposed the scandalous relationship between the married father of three in Moore and assistant Paige Shiver.

Shiver divulged the relationship during the investigation and Michigan axed Moore on Dec. 10 after discovering “credible evidence” of an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

The Detroit News reported in December that Jenner & Block had received authorization to further investigate the “situation” around the firing.

The expanding search included a deeper dive, per a Detroit News source, into “the way Moore’s firing was handled and the culture of the athletic department that allowed his relationship with a subordinate to go on, along with other scandals that have rocked the university in recent years.”

Shiver revealed recently on “Good Morning America” that Moore had “complete control” over her and she had an abortion during their yearslong affair due to a medical condition.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” the school said in a statement. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

Moore, a father of three, was arrested in December and charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking and breaking and entering for breaking into Shiver’s home after she admitted to the affair.

He allegedly grabbed butter knives and threatened to kill himself.

“He said, ‘You ruined my life. Why would you do this to me?’” Shiver told “Good Morning America.”

“He comes in with his hood up, looking down at me, saying I ruined his life and is crying. He’s not listening to me. And it’s like he knew he had control over me. He knew he had power over me.”

Moore ultimately pleaded down to charges of malicious use of a telecommunications device and trespassing, and received 18 months of probation plus a ban on contacting Shiver.
