Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish shares cancer diagnos...

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish announced he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Dalglish, 75, leaned into humor in his statement on Tuesday, joking about his accidental revelation of the situation on social media earlier in the day.

“Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well,” he wrote. “Ideally, this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand.

“Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.”

Dalglish’s announcement came just two days after Kevin Keegan, who Liverpool replaced Dalglish with, also revealed he has stage four cancer.

Liverpool, where Dalglish made 515 appearances as a player and another 381 over two stints as manager, posted support for the soccer icon, who was knighted in 2018.

“Our support and our love are with you, Sir Kenny,” the club wrote on Instagram.

Dalglish recorded 172 goals and 171 assists as a forward for the Reds from 1977-90, helping lead Liverpool to eight league championships, four League Cups, three European Cups and one European Super Cup.

Prior to his stints with Liverpool, he also spent time with Celtic in the Scottish Premier League. He made 320 appearances for the club starting in 1967.

In his international career, the forward earned 102 caps for Scotland, the most of any player, and scored 30 goals.

Dalglish started his managerial career when Liverpool’s manager, Joe Fagan, resigned after the Heysel Stadium disaster in 1985, and he was thrust into a player-manager role. From there, he coached for almost eight years with the club.

The Glasgow native also spent time as a manager with Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Celtic.

Newcastle, where Dalglish spent one year, also offered its support to the football legend.

“Everyone at Newcastle United extends love and best wishes to Sir Kenny Dalglish and his family following his cancer diagnosis,” the club wrote in a statement.
