New York City’s most bespoke, experiential perfume house, Bond No. 9, just released its latest scent: Tuxedo Park, a genderless fragrance named for a storied village an hour north of Manhattan.
Gilded Age high society once retreated to the town’s opulent gardens for sport or leisure, and the scent is fittingly evocative of a time gone by — while also smelling thoroughly modern.
On first spritz, there are sunny notes of Persian lime, tangerine, white grapefruit and herbaceous basil, like sunlight bottled. The heart is a tribute to Tuxedo Park’s magnificent gardens, where tuberose and jasmine meet aldehydic notes — and a touch of champagne — before giving way to leather, oud and ambroxan for a scent that’s as rich and unique as its namesake.
While many a Bond No. 9 scent leans feminine or masculine, Tuxedo Park truly can be worn by anyone. The nose behind it is master perfumer Miroslav Petkov, who’s renowned for his uniquely beautiful fragrances, including Bond No. 9’s editor-approved New York Chic, Chelsea Nights and Good Oud.
We had the honor of trying Tuxedo Park before its release, and it’s an addictive and spring-ready (yet year-round-appropriate) scent that justifies its price tag. People lean in to get a whiff, and our boyfriends have been trying to steal it.
Despite its aristocratic origin, Tuxedo Park provides a universally pleasurable experience — and the sexy dry down has us sniffing our wrists all day. It also has excellent staying power and projection, but is never overbearing.
“Crisp, elegant with a touch of wealth,” one early review reads, while another shopper concurs that it smells “sexy.”
Honoring Tuxedo Park’s rich heritage, where families like the Astors, Vanderbilts and Whitneys entertained the likes of Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde, the scent is as lavish as the estates and scenery of its namesake. (And yes, the village is where the jacket got its name!)
