Ideally, should the next California governor should not:

A. Be profane and volatile 

B. Humiliate her own staff on camera

C. Meltdown when asked basic questions about appealing to voters

D. Say f**k the president just two days after a third assassination attempt

Former Rep. Katie Porter, alas, has now done all of these, raising fresh questions about whether she has the temperament to be California’s next governor.

Voter discretion is advised.

On Monday, as much of the country implored far-left critics to tone down the vile rhetoric, Porter’s team dispatched a fundraising email on Monday that read: “F—- Trump. Yeah, that’s right, F—- Trump.”

(And for good measure, the email ended with yet another “F—- Trump.”)

She was not alone in pushing for “maximum warfare” against the president –– as House Minority Leader Kevin Jeffries put it –– even after the latest attempt on his life.

But it’s still a base, unbecoming –– and in Porter’s case, vulgar –– approach to leadership.

Such language on the heels of an attempted assassination shows a callous disregard for human life, continues to degrade our common political culture, and does nothing to address the various crises afflicting California.

But temperament issues are nothing new for Porter, who once poured a bowl of mashed potatoes over the head of her ex-husband during an argument. 

She was also caught on camera in 2021 screaming at an aide to “get out of my F—- shot” while she was filming a video.

And in October 2025, she unloaded on a journalist who asked her how she would appeal to the 40% of California voters who supported Trump in 2024. 

“How would I need them in order to win?” she retorted, and then threatened to walk out of the interview. 

The Democrats have strayed a long way from the days of Barack Obama’s first campaign for the White House, when he vowed to be a uniter and a president “for all Americans.” (He wasn’t, but that’s another issue.)

Porter offers no hint of unity, and no pretense of polish. She’s all sharp elbows and rough edges. 

California needs a steady hand at the controls, with sound judgment and an even-keeled demeanor.

Gubernatorial leadership should focus not on trashing other politicians, but on providing practical solutions for California’s myriad problems –– including poor affordability; water, energy and road-capacity shortages; chronic homelessness; rampant fraud; overtaxation; and the dismal performance of state government.

A good steward would also focus on avoiding the giveaways to unions that Porter and some other Dems suggest are “solutions” for Californians. 

These include universal (i.e., taxpayer-funded) health care and a “billionaire’s tax” that’s already driving wealth and talent out of the state.
