I own more than 101 foundations and skin tints, but this is the only one in my carry-on for Europe this spring.

As I get ready to head to Italy, I’ve had to be brutally strategic. Between hours-long walking tours of the Colosseum and Vatican, climbing Florence’s Duomo and a breezy boat ride along Lake Como, I’ll need something that’ll make my skin look smooth, radiant and hydrated without melting off by midday.

That’s a tall order for sure, especially in spring-to-summer European heat, where makeup is truly tested.

After blending and buffing what feels like the entirety of Sephora’s line-up, the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Hydrating Gel Skin Tint is the only one I trust for this trip.

The formula hits that rare sweet spot: it’s lightweight but not sheer to the point of disappearing, glowy but not greasy and, most importantly, it actually stays put. It’s designed to last up to 12 hours without fading, caking or settling into fine lines, which is exactly what I need when I’m out from morning espresso to sunset aperitivo.

It does all of the above on my skin, thanks to its gel base that feels cooling and breathable, and it uses hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid to keep skin looking plump and fresh rather than tight or dry. That matters when you’re walking miles on cobblestone streets or climbing hundreds of steps. After all, your makeup has to move with you, not against you!

I’ve tried fuller-coverage foundations that photograph beautifully but break apart around my nose by noon, and I’ve tested ultra-sheer tints that vanish the second I start sweating. This sits perfectly in between. It evens everything out, gives that “your skin but better” glow, and somehow maintains grip throughout the day without feeling heavy.

Packing for a trip like this forces you to cut the excess — and truthfully, it’s revealing. Out of 100+ options, this is the one that earns its place because it performs under pressure. When I’m standing in front of the Colosseum or catching golden hour on Lake Como, I don’t want to think about my makeup. I just want it to work — and this one does.
