A gunman was taken into custody following a nine-hour standoff with cops after he allegedly took a woman hostage in an affluent Beverly Hills neighborhood.

An automated license plate reader identified a pick up truck belonging to a suspect wanted in the attempted murder of a sheriff’s deputy, the Beverly Hills Police Department told the California Post.

The man had allegedly attempted to strike an LASD deputy around 3 am Sunday morning near Inglewood at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and West 104th Street, according to the sheriff’s department.

Law enforcement engaged in a pursuit when license readers flagged the suspects vehicle at 1:30 pm.

The pursuit ended in a standoff at Robertson Boulevard and Burton Way, where the man allegedly took a female hostage and barricaded them inside a vehicle, police told the Post.

The woman was released around 11 p.m., and the man was later taken into custody. The deputy involved in the earlier incident was not injured.

As of Monday morning, the sheriff’s department could not be reached to confirm whether the man in custody has been formally charged.

The relationship between the suspect and the hostage was not immediately clear. No additional details about the hostage have been released.
