Netflix just dropped the highly anticipated fifth season of their hit show, Sweet Magnolias. The show chronicles the lives of three Southern women, Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliot), and Helen (Heather Headley), in the small town of Serenity, South Carolina. The show, adapted from Sherryl Woods’ beloved novels has quickly developed a core fanbase. Since the release of the first season in 2020, fans have tuned in to see the highs and lows of these three best friends’ lives.

Season 5 features a slight departure from the norms of the show, taking the women to New York City and Savannah, in addition to Serenity. The season ends with Helen and Erik (Dion Johnstone) marrying in a beautiful ceremony, Maddie opening a bookshop in Serenity, and Dana Sue deciding to find her own apartment and take some time apart from her husband Ronnie (Brandon Quinn).
Will There Be A Sweet Magnolias Season 6?
As of now, it’s currently unknown as to whether there will be a Season 6 of Sweet Magnolias.
Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson spoke to Deadline about the possibility of a time jump occurring in a sixth season, should the series get renewed by Netflix.
“That’s our cliffhanger, right? The season actually starts in the spring, and we’re only halfway through the summer in this season, so there’s an opportunity to come back at various points in the timeline, but summer’s not over, which is why we have open questions about who’s going to do what by the actual end of summer,” Anderson said.
