Halt the NBA Trade Machine mock deals for De’Aaron Fox.

The first round of the 2026 NBA Draft has come and gone, and the Spurs have given their embattled guard, blamed for San Antonio losing to the Knicks in the NBA Finals, a vote of confidence.

Spurs general manager Brian Wright said the team has “ultimate faith in De’Aaron and who he is as a player, what he’s been for us, and what he means to this team, and there’s no wavering in that at all.”

Fox endured one of the worst series possible for a star guard who just won the Clutch Player of the Year award for his play during the regular season.

The Spurs never benched Fox during the most pivotal moments of their NBA Finals loss to the Knicks, but they do have Dylan Harper, who broke out during the playoffs.

Harper will need more minutes in his sophomore season, leading some to believe the Spurs will move Fox at some point.

San Antonio had the youngest team in the NBA this season and won the Western Conference, but were eliminated by the Knicks in five games, with Fox playing poorly throughout the series.

He shot 3-for-15 in Game 5, and his decision to attempt a layup in the final 15 seconds of Game 4 — resulting in an OG Anunoby block — aided the Knicks’ 29-point comeback.

Asking Harper to come off the bench in his second season may be asking a lot considering how well he performed in the playoffs.

These comments could also be seen as a chess move by the Spurs’ general manager, as Wright might not want to tip his hand with vultures looking to get Fox for nothing.

Fox received a four-year $229 million extension when he was traded to the Spurs that kicks in for the 2026-27 season, a contract that will surely be difficult to trade to teams looking to compete for titles.

Fox averaged just 12.8 points per game in the NBA Finals and 11.8 points per game in the Western Conference Finals, a far cry from his 18.6 mark during the regular season.
