Jennifer Siebel Newsom slams tradwives as ‘harmful’ and blames sexism for Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton’s presidential losses
Ross O'Keefe · 2026-06-20 · via New York Post

Jennifer Siebel Newsom slammed the “tradwife” trend on social media and blamed sexism for Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris’ presidential election losses in a recent wide-ranging interview.

She stopped in for the interview to promote her new movie, “Miss Representation: Rise Up,” while the Justice Department investigates the tax conduct of her and her husband, California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Siebel Newsom says the “tradwife” trend — which originated from the prominent roles women played in households within the 20th century and prior, but has evolved into a social media subculture — oversimplifies women.

“For the tradwife phenomenon, it’s like, you can be a mom, you can make great meals and you can live on a farm and you can wear pretty dresses and I want to make sure those women have a voice, not just at home but in the public sphere,” Siebel Newsom said.

“That isn’t just about consumerism or being in service to men only but that’s also normalising that women have so much to offer the world outside of the home – a power that’s been missing from the decision-making tables,” she said.

California’s first partner, a former actress, said women should shape culture, policy, and norms.

“As the 51% of the population that births 100% of the population, we have a role to play in shaping culture and shaping policy and shaping norms. I’m an and person versus an or,” she said.

She also wasn’t shy in suggesting that she believes American voters chose President Donald Trump over Clinton and Harris because of their gender differences.

“I do believe gender played a huge role in both of their defeats,” Siebel Newsom said. “And Russian interference.”

“As we explore in the documentary, women are essential for a thriving democracy, and when our foreign adversaries see a powerful woman rise, it’s a threat because it’s also what they’re trying to dampen and hold back because it is part of their authoritarian agenda of preserving their power and the status quo.

“Our democracy would be so much better if we had more women in leadership, period, full stop. I’m not saying this needs to be 100% women. Our democracy, I believe, would thrive when we really represent the population.”

She believes a woman president will be elected in her lifetime, and that America is ready for a female president.

“It’s gonna happen in our lifetime, but we’ve got to get our country back and on the right track. The first step is 2026 midterms and then ’28 and hopefully right the ship and do everything we can to kind of uplift and support women, children and families and really ensure that the American dream is alive and well for everyone, not just the few,” she concluded.

Siebel Newsom also made time to blast Trump during her interview, labeling him a “broken, damaging, harmful role model.”

She was incensed over the announcement that the Justice Department had launched an investigation into her.

“There are clearly no boundaries to what Donald Trump will do to get his way or to challenge those who get in his way,” she said.

“This is not presidential behavior, and the Governor and I will continue to speak truth to power because the American people deserve so much more,” Siebel Newsom added.

Her response came after Newsom accused Trump of directing the DOJ to investigate him, his wife and other family members as an act of political retaliation as he considers a run for president in 2028.

Sources close to Newsom have told other media outlets that the investigation focuses on nonprofit projects connected to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, one of which The California Post revealed in March has received millions from special interests doing business with Newsom and the state.

Sources close to Newsom have suggested the probe focuses on nonprofit projects connected to his wife, one of which received millions of dollars from special interests doing business with the state.

Newsom said Trump is coming after him “because I’m considering running for president, because he hates that I’ve consistently called him out over and over again for his lies and deceit.”

Siebel Newsom awkwardly dodged a reporter’s question about the probe on Thursday at the opening of former President Barack Obama’s Presidential Library.

“I’m just so grateful for this inspiration and leadership,” she said, presumably referring to Obama.

“We need more of this!” she exclaimed, before looking away from the reporter.

Newsom then stepped in to say: “This is stuff that happens in other countries. That’s all I’ll say. Happens in other countries.”

“He wants to go after me? Go after me.”
