Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini appeared inseparable for years, but behind the scenes, their longtime friendship had quietly started to shift.

“Jennifer eventually hit a point where she felt like she needed more space from the friendship, and Leah’s feelings were definitely hurt by that because she really valued how close they once were,” a source exclusively told Page Six.

According to our insider, some of the tension began around the time Lopez, 56, and Remini, 55, worked together on the 2018 rom-com “Second Act.”

“Around the time they filmed and promoted the movie together, Jennifer started feeling like the friendship had become a little too intense for her,” the source said. “There was so much constant time together during filming and the press tour that Jennifer eventually felt overwhelmed by the dynamic and started pulling back.”

Fans notably speculated there may have been tension between the longtime pals when Remini did not attend Lopez and Affleck’s 2022 Georgia wedding ceremony. Instead, the source revealed the “King of Queens” star dined with her daughter at The Front Yard in North Hollywood, California.

“Leah and Ben never really clicked, and that definitely created a bit of a wedge between Jennifer and Leah for a period of time,” the source said. “It wasn’t some huge dramatic falling out or anything like that, but over time Jennifer just took a step back from the friendship.”

Still, the source insisted there’s no bad blood between the women today.

“Jennifer still has love for Leah and there’s no huge drama or anything like that, but the friendship just isn’t what it used to be,” the insider said. “They’re not constantly texting and hanging out anymore. Over the last few years Jennifer took a bit of a step back and their lives aren’t as intertwined as they once were.”

“Leah definitely misses the closeness they had and would always be open to being super close again, but Jennifer’s just in a different place right now. They still care about each other, it’s just more of a distant friendship these days rather than that tight bond people saw before.”

Reps for Lopez, Remini and Affleck did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

As previously reported, the comedian shared that she and the “Hustlers” actress started communicating again when they both filed for divorce from their respective spouses in August 2024.

“We’d text each other loving messages of support,” Remini told Us Weekly in an interview published in June 2025.

The “Kevin Can Wait” actress also insisted she was never feuding with Lopez, explaining, “Sometimes you don’t talk to people every day like you used to, but that doesn’t mean the love is lost.”

She added, ”Friendships ebb and flow. That doesn’t mean we’re at odds.”

Remini, 54, filed for divorce from Angelo Pagán on Aug. 29, 2024, after 21 years of marriage.
