I’ve been a fan of Bose speakers for many years now, but I’ve been waiting patiently for the brand to create something in the smart home space that truly blows my mind, and the brand’s latest lifestyle collection finally has that wow factor I’ve been looking for from the brand.

Bose just launched their brand new Ultra soundbar, Ultra subwoofer and Ultra speaker. These are three products that have the potential to completely transform your smart home setup, and I was able to see them in action during an early demo.

A few things stood out immediately. Starting with the Bose Ultra Lifestyle speaker, the portable device really stands out with its sandstone color that can blend seamlessly with wood furnishings. The speaker itself has a modern mesh design with a wooden base (on the limited-edition Sandstone model) and a textured knit construction.

This sleek speaker delivers 360-degree surround sound that sounds balanced at all volumes. Bass feels punchy, and vocals are evenly distributed. Pair it with a second speaker for bigger, room-filling (or apartment-filling) sound.

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, Aux Voice Assistant: Alexa

Its design is just a prelude to what’s within, though, and this speaker delivers some of the biggest and clearest room-filling sound I’ve ever heard. Place this speaker in the middle of your room and feel the bass below your feet, vocals and instruments neatly bouncing off the walls around you. We turned up the volume on this speaker, and the clarity remained, without overwhelming our eardrums.

The speaker has an upward-firing driver, which makes this spatial sound possible, and Bose’s proprietary clean bass technology is what helps your audio distribution feel refined. If you’re a casual listener, one speaker is enough, but to build a home system, you’re going to want two. The audio feels much more enhanced, and depending on how big your home theater is, two speakers can help achieve balanced volume in every corner of your room.

Of course, no home theater setup is complete without a soundbar, and Bose’s new Ultra soundbar has a few features that make it special. It automatically increases dialogue volume in chaotic, loud scenes, making it easy to watch your favorite movies and TV shows without turning up the volume or having to turn on subtitles.

Sleek and sturdy, this compact soundbar enhances dialogue and delivers room-filling sound unlike any Bose soundbar before this. There’s Dolby Atmos and spatial audio tech built in for larger-than-ever sound on this device.

Connectivity: HDMI Arc and eARC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 Voice Assistant: Alexa Weight: 14.8 pounds

It also automatically calibrates the audio to how big your space is, and has something called PhaseGuide drivers, which make it seem like sound is coming from an area that doesn’t actually have a speaker. During my demo, we watched a clip from “Dune,” and I found that the sound of the sandstorm did sound like it was coming from all around me — and what’s more, there was a distinct surround sound quality to it that I didn’t expect from just a soundbar.

Complete the setup with Bose’s Ultra subwoofer. I thought a subwoofer was kind of a redundant device if you have a small space, but I realized the difference it makes. The second the subwoofer was paired, I felt the ground vibrate beneath my feet — literally. I personally also love that Bose’s subwoofer is surprisingly aesthetic, even doubling as a small side table that can hold your essentials. No one would know what this device was if you tucked it into the corner of your home.

If you want bigger bass, this compact subwoofer will make a difference. Its glass top design makes it almost look like a piece of art, making this one of the most unsuspecting subwoofers on the marker.

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, 3.5mm wired connection Weight: 33.7 pounds

Considering the brand’s last soundbar release was in 2023, this line has been a long-awaited release for the company. It’s the same with the subwoofer — it’s been a few long years since Bose has released a proprietary subwoofer.

With these new devices, Bose is reimagining what home theaters are supposed to look like, delivering aesthetically pleasing, minimalistic designs and fewer components without compromising on powerful, immersive sound. Pre-order now and be the first to usher in Bose’s new era of smart home lifestyle devices.
