Move over Thrash, because there’s another survive-the-shark movie coming to movie theaters this weekend: Deep Water, starring Aaron Eckhart.

Directed by Renny Harlin (known for, among other things, the recent Strangers trilogy), with a screenplay co-written by Pete Bridges, Shayne Armstrong, S.P. Krause, Damien Power, Deep Water tells the story of an international commercial flight that is forced to make an emergency landing in the ocean, in shark-infested waters. The blood and injuries induces a shark frenzy, leaving the survivors of the crash to deal with a bunch of rabid, toothy sharks.

Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley co-star in the film as the plane’s captain and co-captain. Other Deep Water cast members include Angus Simpson, Kelly Gale, Madeleine West, Molly Belle Wright, Kate Fitzpatrick, and Mark Hadlow. For now, Deep Water will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in theaters wide in the U.S. on Friday, May 1. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Deep Water is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

Is the Deep Water 2026 movie streaming on Netflix or Prime Video?

Deep Water is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now. While it’s possible Deep Water may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie. Deep Water is not a Netflix original—it’s a small, independent film being distributed by Magenta Light Studios. Never say never, but so far, none of the recent Magenta Light Studio releases have gone on to stream on Netflix.

You will be able to purchase Deep Water on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Deep Water for free on Prime Video any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. If you want to watch the Deep Water movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms.

When will the Deep Water 2026 movie release on digital to buy and rent online?

The Deep Water 2026 digital release date has not yet been announced. However, we can make an educated guess as to when we might see Deep Water on video-on-demand, based on the digital release of previous films from Magenta Light Studios.

Another Magenta Light movie, Bride Hard was released on digital about one month after opening in theaters. If Deep Water follows a similar pattern, you might seethe movie on video-on-demand in about a month’s time, around early June 2026.

But this is all speculation. Digital releases vary by title. If you want to see Deep Water right away, you can catch the movie in a theater.
