Chris Dahlan, a Miami-based mental health instructor, made his Netflix debut on Age of Attraction earlier this year, where he briefly dated a woman in her 40s. While things between them didn’t work out, the 26-year-old was given a second chance at finding love in Perfect Match Season 4.
The self-proclaimed love-bomber came into this season boasting of his height, his “fit” body, and his money, quickly catching eyes from Vanderpump Rules alum Ally Lewber and Squid Game: The Challenge star Mackenzie Bellows. He ultimately chose to match with the latter, though her refusal to accept his love language may have set them up for failure from the start.
When Dahlan attempted to gift Bellows a Louis Vuitton wallet on their first night in the villa, she told him to “save it,” explaining that she “felt like a hoe-bag” accepting such an expensive gift so early on in their relationship. But, according to Dahlan, that’s all a part of his charm. In fact, he once gifted a $4,000 Prada bag to a girl on their first date, though she ended up going out with his best friend instead.
When DECIDER caught up with Dahlan via Zoom, he swore that gift-giving works out in his favor “more often than not,” adding, “I don’t know why we’re here shaming love languages all of a sudden.”
Per Dahlan, who is Lebanese, it’s “very much so a part of [his] culture” to always have a gift on hand. “My mom, if she goes to Lebanon, she takes two suitcases of gifts with her. When I’m traveling, I’m always looking for something to bring or something to take.” Looking back, Dahlan understands why it could come across as a “big deal” to gift a designer accessory mere hours after meeting someone, though he didn’t think the moment would be aired in the show.
“In the moment, I really was [thinking], ‘No one’s ever going to find out about this. This is off-camera,'” he said. “[I was] not even thinking that there’s a camera in the corner like that. It is for sure a love language of mine. I’m always gift-giving. Sometimes it’s a little too much, sometimes it’s not, but it’s okay. Whatever.”
The wallet wasn’t the only gift Dahlan had brought along to Mexico. He said he also brought hats from the Formula 1 racing team he works with, as well as gift cards.
As for his relationship with Bellows? Well, I suppose it was a good thing she didn’t accept the wallet, because Dahlan ultimately chose to re-match with bombshell Kayla Richart, of Too Hot to Handle fame. While they were both sent home following a group vote, they each returned to the show in Episode 5 to stir things up with the matched couples. Dahlan was sent to the girls’ mixer, while Richart was sent to the boys’ mixer — and even though he shared a kiss with Sophie Willett from Love is Blind UK, he said he still had Richart on his mind.
“The honest truth is, I wanted to return my way back to Kayla at that point,” Dahlan said. “I was kind of disengaged at the mixer for a little while. You see me kissing Sophie at the end. We were playing that game, and everyone gets to choose who they want to kiss or whatever. Obviously, I’m telling myself, ‘Let me be open and talk to everybody else.’ But in my heart, I’m like, ‘I’m just trying to get back to Kayla right now.'”
See what happens when the next two episodes of Perfect Match Season 4 drop on Wednesday, May 20 on Netflix.
