Alyssa Farah Griffin shared her thoughts on the indictment of James Comey, which she ultimately deemed to be “a waste of resources.”

Wednesday’s episode of The View kicked off with a discussion about the former FBI Director, who is being indicted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) over a social media post he shared and deleted last year. The post, which features seashells on the sand in the shape of the numbers, “86 47,” has been interpreted by the DOJ to be a threat to President Donald Trump, who is the 47th president of the U.S.

Whoopi Goldberg quipped, “So I just want to be clear. Are they interviewing the seashells themselves or are they interviewing Sally who sells seashells by the seashore?”

After Goldberg deemed the indictment a “distraction,” Joy Behar provided the Webster’s Dictionary definition of “86,” which she said you’ve likely heard in a diner or luncheonette.

“They say, ’86 the hamburgers.’ They’re out of meat, that’s all it means. It means that it’s throw it out, or get rid of it, they don’t have it,” Behar said. It doesn’t mean we’re going to kill you.”

Behar also cited a 2020 post that Trump reposted, which read, “The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.”

“So the entire party could take offense and take him to court,” she continued. “This guy, it’s all about his vengeance and vendettas that he has, and distractions. He’s got more vendettas than the Godfather. His name is Don, remember that.”

Sunny Hostin highlighted “a couple of things at play here,” noting former Attorney General Pam Bondi‘s firing was likely because she “didn’t prosecute his enemies in the manner that [Trump] wanted her to,” and that this might be current Attorney General Todd Blanche’s chance to get into Trump’s “good graces and keep his job.”

She also said that she thinks Comey’s indictment will likely be “dismissed,” as his first indictment in September 2025 for “lying” was dismissed two months later. Hostin brought up that Comey’s “86 47” post was posted and deleted in May 2025—prior to his first indictment being made—and that his statement explaining why he took the post down seemed to Hostin to qualify as “a vindictive prosecution.” That, and the DOJ must prove that there was “an imminent threat.”

Griffin eventually chimed in, noting that the nation is “coming off of the third assassination attempt on the president” in the wake of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“I would like the FBI and DOJ to look for actual true threats against the president of the United States so that we catch those targets before we have a situation like we did this past weekend,” she shared. “This to me, an Instagram post with seashells, and any of us who spend a lot of time in bars knows ’86’ means throw them out or take it off the men. That is not a real, serious threat. It is a waste of resources.”

Griffin also highlighted the “bigger issue” for her, which is that many of her loved ones supported Trump on the basis of “cost of living issues.” However, “this is happening right now when gas is so expensive,” in addition to higher unemployment rates.

“That is what people wanted Donald Trump to focus on. I don’t really care what James Comey is doing at any given time,” Griffin argued.

Goldberg agreed, “Nobody does.”

Griffin added, “Focus on actual threats, address pocketbook issues.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
