PORTLAND, Ore. — Thursday will be a day to remember for Aussie forward Alexandra Fowler.

The former University of Portland forward filled the Liberty’s final developmental spot, signing a contract with New York on Thursday morning.

Fowler then went out and scored 12 points in Thursday night’s 100-82 win over the Fire, the Liberty’s fourth game in a week.

Fowler didn’t think she’d have a WNBA opportunity for a few years. Much to the 24-year-old’s surprise, she was invited to the Liberty’s training camp last month.

Fowler played in both of the team’s preseason games. She had eight points, five rebounds, an assist and two steals in her debut with the team April 25. She went scoreless in the Liberty’s second preseason game while still managing to contribute two rebounds and three steals.

Fowler was among the cuts May 6 to trim the team’s roster to the league-mandated 12-player limit.

Fowler said she had been “just chilling” in New York in the time since.

“The way that the WNBA is heading, women’s sports and all that and being able to have the opportunity to have development spots, I think it’s really cool just to learn and soak in, take everything in,” Fowler told The Post. “I just want to be a sponge. … We have so many vets and so many great players, so I think it’s cool for me to be able to learn from them.”

Fowler is coming off a WNBL championship run with the Australian club Townsville Fire. She averaged 10.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 28 games last season while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from behind the arc.

Fowler has several notable accolades to her name. She was named the 2024 WNBL’s Rookie of the Year and later earned Most Valuable Player honors at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup after helping the Opals win gold while averaging 11.8 points and 7.2 rebounds.

Prior to going pro, Fowler played four seasons at the University of Portland, where she finished as the program’s all-time leader in points (2,132), field goals made (832), career field goal percentage (55 percent) and rebounds (882.). She’s the only player in the Pilots’ history to make the All-West Coast Conference First Team four times. She also led the conference in scoring twice.

Given her history in Portland, Fowler said it’s all the more special for her to start her new contract while in town.

“The world works in crazy ways,” she said. “A lot of my family and friends and all my coaches and staff are coming to the game, so I think it’s going to be pretty cool.”

Rebecca Allen scored three points in 14 minutes in her season debut.

Allen had been upgraded to questionable for Thursday’s game after being a full participant in shootaround for the second consecutive time.

Allen’s season debut was delayed due to left leg soreness. Allen also missed the Liberty’s preseason action for reconditioning purposes.
