Kacey Montoya, the KTLA weathercaster who was part of a group of shocking firings at the station earlier this year, recently appeared on a new network in Los Angeles.

Montoya was a guest on Fox 11’s Good Day LA Thursday, where she spoke passionately about her nonprofit aimed at keeping animals out of shelters, providing spay and neutering services, and helping pet owners tackle unexpected vet costs.

Montoya shared she found the motivation to start Fix’n Fidos in 2018 because of overcrowded animal shelters that all too often had to euthanize animals to create space, with the nonprofit becoming official in 2019. She also works to help veterans with pets.

“Hopefully this election cycle we get people who care about pets and will fix it,” she said as she continued to address the issue of overcrowded shelters and illegal breeding.

It was a reunion of sorts for Montoya, who previously worked with Good Day LA anchor Araksya Karapetyan 20 years ago in Portland, Oregon.

Montoya had her last day on air for KTLA last month. She appeared on the station regularly on weekends — getting the opportunity to finish out her contract — after it was announced in February she was among some of the station’s top talent to be fired.

“It was an AMAZING 13 years at KTLA. 👋 I am truly grateful for the experience,” she posted to Instagram following her final day on air.

Anchors Ellina Abovian, Glen Walker and Lu Parker, as well as longtime meteorologist Mark Kriski, were also let go.

Abovian recently landed a new job of her own.

The layoffs were reportedly fueled by parent media company Nexstar Media Group as it looked to finalize its acquisition of Virginia-based media company Tegna. One staffer still employed at KTLA told The California Post the whole thing had left them feeling ”sick” compared it to ”having five friends die.”
