This Mets mess isn’t on Carlos Mendoza.

The Mets fired their manager on Friday on the heels of a sweep by the Cubs, ending a tumultuous run marred by rumors and whispers about his job status.

At 34-47, the Mets — losers of six straight entering Friday’s series opener against the rival Phillies and on pace for 94 losses this season — and their numerous issues weren’t borne of Mendoza’s doing, The Post’s Jon Heyman said.

“I don’t believe this is Carlos Mendoza’s fault, I don’t believe many people do,” Heyman said in his immediate analysis of the move. “Obviously, David Sterns made a number of mistakes through the winter. I think changing the coaching staff wasn’t the right thing to do. I think bringing in all these unreliable players who are injury prone certainly did not help matters.”

Stearns, the team’s president of baseball operations, overhauled the roster and the coaching staff after a second-half collapse saw the Mets miss the postseason in 2025.

He moved on from homegrown favorites like Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil in favor of Bo Bichette, who has struggled offensively and Luis Robert Jr. and Jorge Polanco, who have combined for 159 plate appearance between them.

“The fans were chanting ‘Pete Alonso’ a couple nights ago — can’t blame them,” Heyman said. “They’re just not a reliable team. They have too many unreliable players. This is the way baseball works. Unfortunately for Carlos Mendoza, they did not look good the last couple nights, the six-error game, another sloppy game, defeat to the Cubs, got swept by the Cubs, 94-loss pace. And this is how baseball goes.”

Andy Green, who played four games for the Mets in 2009 — the final of his four MLB season — takes over as interim manager following Mendoza’s departure. Green arrives with some red flags of his own.

“He is close with Sterns,” Heyman said. “We shall see if he ends up keeping the job. Former Padres manager was running the Mets minor leagues, which really they’re not doing great either to be honest. We shall see.”
