New York cops risk their lives every day to protect the rest of us, but some heroism is more obvious.

Several officers on Thursday rushed back into a building where they’d been injured in a massive explosion to get civilians out to safety.

Police were at a home’s front door, responding to a 911 call of a domestic dispute involving a man with a knife and perhaps flammable liquid, when a sudden explosion threw several of them off their feet and into a gate.

Undeterred, the cops got right back up — despite their injuries and lack of fire-protection gear — and headed straight into the home to save residents, even as the flames grew more intense.

Thankfully, they managed to find several kids and adults and help them to safety.

If that’s not worth cheering, nothing is.

The fire, by the way, turned into a five-alarmer — yet all of the residents were accounted for; several were hospitalized, but all are safe.

The cops were treated for minor burns; one had a head laceration requiring stitches.

“With no clear sense of what they were walking into,” tweeted Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the heroes “made the decision to keep moving forward. Their focus stayed exactly where it needed to be: on the people inside, on getting those children out, and on making sure that situation didn’t claim innocent lives.”

City cops take a lot of abuse from left-wing haters.

Yet the department this year has made historic gains in rolling back the city’s murder rate and the number of shootings.

The courage and commitment to protecting the innocent that cops showed Thursday are one factor in the NYPD’s success.
