Joy Behar slammed Jeff Bezos on The View for his involvement as an honorary chair in the Met Gala, calling the former Amazon CEO “tacky” for “celebrating with all your wealth” during a time when everyday Americans are struggling to afford basic necessities.

“I’m sick of him but I also love Amazon, that’s my dilemma,” Behar said during Tuesday’s (May 5) broadcast during a discussion about the Met Gala protests.

Behar added, “The country is spending nearly a billion dollars a day on the stupid war that Trump started, while they’re gutting health care and social services. I think it’s kind of tacky to be celebrating with all your wealth and all that while this is happening in this country.”

“He’s tacky,” she stated.

Behar continued to rip Bezos and the Met Gala as she pointed out that it’s been rumored to cost $100,000 for a ticket to attend the Costume Institute event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

“I love Amazon, pay your taxes, Bezos, and pay your employees,” Behar demanded. “Man, it’s depressing to think of what goes on in this country and it costs $100,000 to get into that gala. and there are people who can’t afford gas, who can’t afford food, they can’t afford bread.”

Whoopi Goldberg defended the celebrities who chose to attend the Met Gala despite the protests as she reminded viewers, “It doesn’t mean you don’t care people are going hungr, because a lot of those people do stuff for free. They go and they give their time, they give their money. You don’t always know it’s them, but they’re doing it.”

She then turned to Behar and shared that she also agrees with her points about Bezos, who is an honorary chair of the event alongside his wife, Lauren Sanchez, and celebs Beyoncé, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman and Anna Wintour.

“I’m like you, I also like my Amazon and I want him to pay his people,” Goldberg said. “I want him to make the company better because they’re slipping.”

Behar told the audience, “Somebody like him needs to pay.”

“I’m paying, [Goldberg is] paying, you guys are paying more than they are and that’s not fair,” she said of the multi-billionaire.

Goldberg ended the segment with a bold joke as she sent the discussion to commercial. “They say the only thing you can depend on is death and taxes. How come they don’t depend on it?!” she quipped.
