What does Thomas Pieters’ golf future look like if LIV Golf folds? Well, it certainly does not involve a return to the PGA Tour.

The Belgian golfer was “ready to retire” if LIV Golf closed up shop last month after reports questioning the league’s future popped up ahead of LIV Golf Mexico City, Pieters told golf journalist Dan Rapaport in an episode of “Dan on Golf” that aired on Monday.

“I was ready to retire on Monday if they really pull the plug that quick, and that was OK with me,” Pieters, 34, said. “The atmosphere was really grim. I had enough of it after 3-4 hours, everybody talking about it.”

The future of LIV Golf is even further up in the air now after the Saudi Public Investment Fund officially pulled its financial support of the rebel golf league after this season, forcing LIV leadership to scramble to try to come up with funding.

Reports surfaced last week that a number of unnamed LIV Golf players had their reps reach out to the PGA Tour about understanding a pathway back there.

But Pieters surely wasn’t one of them, almost channeling Taylor Swift and proclaiming “We Are Never Getting Back Together” to the PGA Tour.

“I’m definitely never going back to the PGA Tour. I’ve never liked that life,” he said. “And that’s not me having a go at the PGA Tour, it’s not for me. I tried it and I just wasn’t happy there. If [LIV] goes away, I’ll probably try and play some on the European Tour or I don’t know. I really don’t know.”

Pieters has been in the LIV Golf fold since he signed with the league in 2023 and is a member of the Dustin Johnson-captained 4Aces this season.

A player meeting is slated to take place on Tuesday at Trump National, which is the site of LIV’s next scheduled tournament, and should provide some clarity for the golfers on the circuit.

Pieters said that he and the other players “are just guessing right now.”

“But if we’re playing for $5 million next year or I could play on the DP World Tour for $3 million but be close to home that’s something I’d have to look at it when it comes,” Pieters said. “Possibly there’s guys going. But I think that’s up to Scott and his team to get this thing together and we’ll just have to find out.”
