You can watch Ryan Gosling wake up a long way from home from the comfort of your home, now that the Project Hail Mary movie is available to buy and rent on digital platforms.
Project Hail Mary is the highly-anticipated adaptation of Andy Weir’s popular 2021 sci-fi novel of the same name. The screenplay was adapted by Buffy veteran Drew Goddard, and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Gosling, who also produced the film, stars as Dr. Ryland Grace, an astronaut who is sent into space to save humanity. The only problem? He can’t remember any of that. He wakes up on a spaceship, alone, with no memory of how he got there, where he’s going, or what he’s supposed to be doing.
Also starring Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, and Lionel Boyce, Project Hail Mary was a box office smash hit, earning over $656 million at the worldwide box office, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2026 so far. Is it a surprise, then, that the movie is already coming to digital platforms to buy and rent at home? Not really! In fact, Amazon MGM usually only keeps films in theaters for one month before pushing them to video-on-demand. The fact that Project Hail Mary got nearly two months of being theaters only is a testament to its box office success.
But before you purchase Project Hail Mary to watch at home, you should know that we do expect to see Project Hail Mary streaming free on Prime Video soon.
Beginning on Tuesday, May 12, Project Hail Mary is now available to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the film costs $24.99 to buy a digital copy, and $19.99 to rent. If you rent the movie, you’ll have 48 hours to watch the movie after hitting “play.”
The Project Hail Mary DVD, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray release date has not yet been announced.
You Me and Tuscany is not yet streaming on any subscription streaming services, but we do expect to see You Me and Tuscany streaming free on Amazon Prime Video soon, because Project Hail Mary is an Amazon MGM movie, and therefore will likely go to streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
If you aren’t a Prime Video subscriber yet, you can get started with a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial, including Prime perks like the Prime Video streaming service, free two-day shipping, exclusive deals, and more. After the free trial, Amazon Prime costs $14.99/month or $139/year.
All 18- to 24-year-olds, regardless of student status, are eligible for a discounted Prime for Young Adults membership as well, with age verification. After a six-month free trial, you’ll pay 50% off the standard Prime monthly price of $14.99/month — just $7.49/month — for up to six years and get all the perks.
The Project Hail Mary streaming release date on Prime Video has not yet been announced, but you might see Project Hail Mary streaming free-to-subscribers on Prime Video in the next few weeks to one month, around June 2026.
Some Amazon MGM movies, like Crime 101, began streaming free-to-subscribers on Amazon Prime Video just one day after releasing on premium video-on-demand. But others, like Mercy, began streaming on Prime Video about one month after releasing on PVOD.
There has not been a consistent streaming release strategy for these Amazon MGM movies. But if we had to guess, we think because Project Hail Mary is such a big movie, MGM will wait at least one month before releasing Project Hail Mary to stream for free on Prime Video. If so, you might see Project Hail Mary streaming free on Prime Video around early-to-mid June 2026.
But again, this is all speculation. In the meantime, you can buy or rent Project Hail Mary online.
