Jeopardy champion Jamie Ding will be coming back for more on Friday’s episode of the ABC game show, continuing his winning streak of 30 games now.
Ding, 30, has captured the nation’s attention with his impressive winning streak, which is slowly creeping towards a whopping $1 million. The law student and bureaucrat opened up about the experience during an appearance on Good Morning America Friday.
“I mean, nobody goes in planning to win 30 games, only a complete egomaniac would do that,” he said, per The Detroit News. “I entertained the possibility, it’s nice to dream big, but that it’s actually happened is amazing. It’s wonderful.”
Speaking to People, the Princeton University graduate shared that he hoped to use his prize winnings for charity, adding that he was glad that “as an immigrant and a person of color, I was able to become part of the history of an American institution.”
“I haven’t committed to anything definitive yet, but it’s tough out there for immigrants. I’ve always wanted to be doing good things for others and now I’ll have significantly more power to do that,” he said.
Ding, who works as a project manager at the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, has been competing on the show while also participating as one of several New Jersey voters involved in a federal lawsuit aiming to block the U.S. Justice Department from getting access to New Jersey’s complete voter registration. New Jersey state lawyers say the request violates New Jersey privacy laws and could be used for “immigration enforcement, denaturalization, or political retaliation,” per the New Jersey Globe.
Will the Jeopardy champ continue his winning streak tonight? Here is everything we know about Ding’s recent wins and how to watch Jeopardy live tonight.
Yes! Jamie Ding won his 30th game on Thursday, April 23, bringing his winnings to $849,603. According to the official Jeopardy rankings, this places Ding fifth in consecutive games won and in highest total winnings behind now-host Ken Jennings and former contestants James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio and Amy Schneider.
On GMA, Ding said he thought it was a “fantastic game” competing against contestants Patrick Nolan and Leighanna Mixter.
“We all played well, Patrick, Leighanna and me, and we had two five-figure true Daily Doubles that paid off. I was nervous watching it, and I knew the outcome,” he said.
