Just after the USA’s 2-0 victory over Australia on Thursday afternoon, Seattle Stadium erupted into song.

When the game ended, “Country Roads” by John Denver blasted off the speakers in Seattle, and the crowd followed along.

As the song began playing, to a sold out crowd of 66,925 people, mixed between fans of the USA and Australia, the crowd voices overtook the Seattle speakers as fans from both sides united and their voices echoed across the stadium, sending chills down the spines of everyone in attendance.

When the crowd finished singing, players from both teams walked down the grass and were applauding the fans in attendance for creating one of the most memorable moments from this year’s World Cup.

Denver released Country Roads in April, 1971, and it instantly became an American classic as the song has been featured in multiple movies, TV shows, and played in stadiums across the United States.

A year after it came out, West Virginia adopted the song and has been playing it in the stadium before every home football game.

In 1980, the school had Denver perform it during pre-game festivities for their season opener against Cincinnati.

Recently, West Virginia went viral on the internet when the song was played following a College Baseball Super Regionals game.

While Country Roads stole the show on Friday afternoon, the Seattle crowd was also seen participating in other American classics.

When the song concluded, the crowd continued singing.

Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi was the next song to echo through Seattle, then came songs by AC/DC and Journey.

With the USA improving to 2-0 in the World Cup today, it automatically clinches them a spot in the round of 32 for the World Cup. It’s the first time they’ve done this since 1930.

Despite being without team captain Christian Pulisic, the USA had an early goal by Cameron Burgess to put them up 1-0. They piled on to their lead for the game’s final score when Alex Freeman headed in a deflected shot by Sergino Dest at the 42 minute mark.
