Aaron Boone opens up on his battle with a bag of sunflowe...

For a baseball manager, the toughest moments on the job consist of making the right game-time adjustments.

But on Tuesday night, for Yankees manager Aaron Boone, the toughest moment of the game was opening a bag of sunflower seeds.

Cameras caught the manager battling a bag of Giant Sunflower Seeds — and the bag was winning. Boone addressed the viral moment on “Talkin’ Yanks” on Wednesday.

“When I checked some things, I did see the seeds thing, and looking like an idiot,” Boone said. “That’s a one-off that I didn’t get the open right.”

The fight lasted a while, as Boone had to bite into the sunflower seed package to break it open. But finally, Boone was able to enjoy his roasted and salted treat.

“Boone looked like he was breaking into Fort Knox, trying to get those seeds,” YES broadcaster Michael Kay said.

It all worked out in the end for Boone and the Yankees, who squeaked by the Blue Jays 5-4.

Unlikely hero Ryan McMahon tied the game with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fifth, Ben Rice continued his hot start to the season with a two-run homer that gave the Yankees a 5-3 lead.

The bullpen held its own, too. Relievers Tim Hill, Jake Bird and Brent Headrick combined for three innings of one-hit baseball before Camilo Doval gave up a run en route to a nervy save.

But Boone was not able to see all of it from the dugout. He was ejected after arguing with umpire Brennan Miller following Daulton Varsho’s diving catch. It was a moment to get reacquainted as Miller is the same ump who threw Boone out after the infamous “Savages in the box” comment back in 2019.

With Tuesday night’s win, the Yankees have won 11 off their last 12 home games and enter Wednesday night 3.5 games behind the AL East-leading Rays, who won Wednesday afternoon.

The Yankees will look to keep it rolling against Toronto on Wednesday night, when Cam Schlittler and Jays ace Trey Yesavage go head-to-head on the bump.

But the real battle might be in the dugout when Boone inevitably faces off against another bag of sunflower seeds.
