Margo’s Got Money Troubles Season 1 has come to a close, but we are far from seeing the last of this crew.
**Spoiler alert: this story contains major details from Season 1, Episode 8 of Margo’s Got Money Troubles, now streaming on Apple TV**
Eight episodes with Margo Millet (Elle Fanning) and her community of chosen and literal family members is simply not enough and Apple TV clearly agrees, as the show is officially coming back for more. That said, it will be at least a year or so until we find out what comes next for Jinx (Nick Offerman), Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), Kenny (Greg Kinnear), and Susie (Thaddea Graham). Oh, and Bodhi, how could we forget about Bodhi?!
In the meantime, we’re planning to just keep rewatching Season 1 — which is now streaming in full — especially as we prepare to enter Emmy season, which we predict will be fruitful for the entire cast and crew. And their chances only increase as they managed to stick the landing with Episode 8, “Lock and Load,” which wraps up most storylines with a nice, neat bow.
Too impatient to watch or slightly confused about how it all ends? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading for a quick breakdown of the Season 1 finale of Margo’s Got Money Troubles…
At the start of Episode 8, Margo is ready to go to war after an anonymous concerned citizen called Child Protective Services on Margo to report an unsafe living situation. The call came in after Jinx’s relapse inside the apartment and his near heroin overdose. Before Jinx could fully move out, CPS showed up and drug tested everyone, which puts Margo in a precarious situation heading into the custody battle with Mark (Michael Angarano). At the outset, Lace (Nicole Kidman) tells Margo that given Mark’s upper hand, it might just be better to play ball with him, rather than try to fight him on every count.
Unfortunately, during their second mediation session — remember, their first ended poorly after Shyanne clocked Mark’s mother (Marcia Gay Harden) square in the jaw — Mark doubles down on his “take no prisoners” mentality, attempting to slutshame Margo and even saying that he refuses to have his son “raised by a pervert.” At that, Margo leaps across the table and physically attacks Mark, who jumps back just in time to not withstand any further injury from Margo or her family members. This just happens to be the exact kind of thing that Lace said she could not do, which only compromises her position moving forward.
For obvious reasons, mediation is no longer the way to figure out who gets custody of Bodhi, which forces Margo and Mark to take their butts to court, where they get assigned to a judge who Lace describes as tough, but fair. This is the understatement of the year, as the moment he storms into the courtroom, he begins reading the entire room to filth, tearing into Mark, his mother, Jinx, Shyanne, and Margo for their outrageous behavior for and around Bodhi. After giving each person a piece of his mind, the judge instructs Margo’s side of the room to pass Bodhi around to get a sense of how he feels with them, pivoting then to Mark, who immediately makes Bodhi burst into tears. Mark also begins to tear up, as it is the first time he is holding his son.
Seeing that Mark is emotionally moved but that Margo has a strong village, the judge orders Bodhi to remain in the primary custody of Margo but stay with Mark two weekends a month. Lace tells Margo that this is about as much of a win as they could hope for coming in, and Margo’s entire side of the courtroom happily embraces. Eventually, Margo and Mark meet in the middle and say that they want to make it work for Bodhi’s sake and that he deserves parents who can love him and respect each other. It’s as they’re walking out of the courtroom that Mark admits her was not the one who called CPS on Margo, which is when it’s revealed that Kenny was the one who made the call. Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve found the loose thread that is certainly going to be explored in Season 2.
Season 1 ends with Margo going about her OnlyFans business, having fully transitioned the extra bedroom in the apartment into a spaceship set for creating content. The last shots see Margo opening up her legs to the camera while fully covered in turquoise body paint and alien garb, teasing an even more unfiltered second season.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles Season 1 is now streaming.
Apple TV comes with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers and has just one ad-free streaming plan available for $13.99/month.
