We all remember where we were when Amanda Batula and West Wilson released a joint statement confirming their romance, as does their close friend and Summer House co-star Lindsay Hubbard, who was in the middle of filming her confessional interviews for their new spinoff, In the City.
On the afternoon of March 31, after weeks of dating rumors, Batula and Wilson announced their transition from friends to lovers in a shocking joint statement, in which they wrote, “We’ve shown up for each other as friends over the years, through all the highs and lows, and what’s developed recently was the last thing either of us expected. Our connection grew out of a genuine long-standing friendship, which made it especially important for us to approach this with care.”
The scandal sent shockwaves through the Bravo universe. Batula had only recently announced her separation from Kyle Cooke, and, based on what was happening in Summer House Season 10, it seemed that Wilson and Ciara Miller were well on their way to rekindling their romance. Bravo fans and Bravolebrities alike quickly joined in on the discourse, with several Summer House stars, including Hubbard, publicly voicing their support for Miller.
The news, of course, came just in time to increase hype for the premiere of In the City, a Summer House spinoff set to follow Hubbard, Batula, Cooke, and the rest of their friend group in their everyday lives outside of the Hamptons share house. With Batula and Cooke’s crumbling marriage set to take center stage, it’s no surprise that production recently picked cameras back up to film an additional scene for the premiere in the wake of Batula’s new relationship.
When Hubbard stopped by DECIDER’s studio earlier today, she said she didn’t know what was filmed as she wasn’t included in the extra scenes. However, she did reveal that she found out about Batula and Wilson’s relationship when cameras were rolling for In the City, describing the moment as a “sneak attack.”
“I was doing confessionals right when the announcement was posted that West and Amanda announced that they were together,” she shared. “That’s on camera! I don’t know if that’s going to be a pickup or not, but they were already rolling, so lucky timing for us, I guess.”
The Summer House vet acknowledged that it’s “really hard” to decide what gets included in the final cut, noting that she does “not envy” the job of production when it comes to making those decisions.
“These scandals are very impactful, and they can rock our world as they have,” she said. “It’s the only thing that we’ve been consumed by and talking about every day for the last two months. I don’t know to what capacity those pickups are going to make it or what they involved or what was said. But we need a play-by-play. We need cameras on us at all times, honestly.”
With that in mind, Hubbard said she’d also be open to filming her impending sit-down with Batula, who recently reached out about meeting up, for their new show.
“I mean, we’ve come this far. Who knows what could happen?” she teased. As for how she thinks Miller would feel about their meetup, Hubbard said she doesn’t think the Traitors alum will “think too deeply” about it. “Everyone knows where I stand on this issue,” she added. “Whenever Amanda and I do meet, it’s less about like, ‘Oh, Lindsay’s gonna take Amanda’s side,’ [and] it’s more about [the] long history of friendship there between Amanda and I, between our group of friends. I think that deserves a conversation.”
Summer House airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT, while In the City premieres on Tuesday, May 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
