The extended family of late NASCAR driver Greg Biffle offered their support to Kyle Busch’s family following his unexpected death Thursday.

Following the death of Biffle and his wife, son and daughter in a plane crash in December, Busch and his family served as a pillar of support, Biffle’s family said in a statement Friday.

“The passing of Kyle Busch is incredibly difficult to comprehend,” the statement read. “First and foremost, we are praying for Sam, Brexton, Lennix, Gaye, Tom and Kurt. They stood with us through our own grieving just five months ago, holding our hand at the service and continuing to offer support and love. A loss like this is unimaginable for any family, and our hearts ache for them.”

The statement also detailed the close relationship between Biffle and Busch, saying that the two would spend time together during the offseasons.

“Kyle was larger than life — iconic, fiercely competitive and an amazing friend to Greg,” the statement continued. They leaned on each other often, not only through racing, but through life and personal challenges as well.

“Greg and Kyle spent time together in Glamis during the offseasons, enjoying watching their boys together and always looking ahead to the future with excitement and pride. It’s hard to imagine our racing community without Kyle. The impact of this loss will be felt far beyond the racetrack. We love the Busch family and will be here for them in any way they need.”

Busch died at 41 years old just hours after being hospitalized with a “severe illness” on Thursday morning.

An exact cause of death for Busch has yet to be disclosed, but a 911 call obtained by the California Post revealed that he was lying on a bathroom floor and coughing up blood the day before his death.

“I’ve got an individual that’s shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he’s going to pass out and is producing a little bit of blood — coughing up some blood,” the man told dispatch.

“He is awake,” the man later added. “He’s awake. He’s on the bathroom floor right now.”
