It feels like just yesterday Mark Consuelos was getting swallowed by a whale and Angela Bassett was in space. But 9-1-1 did the thing again, and by that, we mean it wrapped another season full of high-stakes emergencies, near death experiences, and emotional character connections! So what now?
With TV shows getting canceled left and right as networks firm up their future slates, 9-1-1 fans will understandably be curious about the fate of ABC’s hit first responder drama. So here’s everything we know about the future of 9-1-1!
After an intense Season 9 finale saw Athena (Bassett) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) fighting for their lives, 9-1-1 ended on a refreshingly hopeful note with all core characters marked safe from showrunner/writer Tim Minear’s unpredictable pen. That said, a time jump revealed some major changes within the group, so will we get a chance to see them play out in Season 10?

You bet! The 9-1-1-verse is still going strong. On March 5, ABC renewed both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville. So while their current seasons are ending, fans of the 9-1-1 universe can rest easy knowing we haven’t seen the last of the 118 or the 113.
Shortly after their renewals, ABC reported that both series “rose to season highs in Live+Same Day viewership while also notching impressive gains over three days of multiplatform viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+ and digital platforms.” With millions of people tuning in to watch the freshman and established dramas, it’s no wonder the network wants more — and so do fans!
Since Season 9 just ended, an official 9-1-1 Season 10 premiere date has yet to be announced. We’ll have to wait until ABC announces its fall 2026 primetime TV schedule to know exact details, and if 9-1-1 will continue airing Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. But Season 8’s finale aired in May 2025 and Season 9 premiered in October 2025. So it’s safe to assume 9-1-1 will be back with new Season 10 episodes in the fall.

Like 9-1-1 Season 8 and Season 9 before it, the 10th season of the hit ABC drama will likely consist of 18 episodes again. But again, we won’t know for sure until it’s announced. So stay tuned!
For the purposes of Season 10 predictions, here’s what you need to keep in mind. All the core characters survived the Season 9 finale’s hospital danger, and an end of episode time jump teases some big changes within the group. Athena became a detective, May is training to become a nurse, Eddie found Esteban a new home with his parents in El Paso, and Oliver welcomed his biological son Theo home.
Season 10 will continue to follow characters as they grow, connect, move forward in their personal and professional lives, and respond to emergencies of course! While we’re not sure what the future has in store for everyone, we’ll definitely see Athena settle in as a detective, watch May embark on her next chapter, and see Oliver and Theo strengthen their bond — though challenges will undoubtedly arise along the way.
