The sight of Gunner Olszewski going down and then needing help to get off the field Friday turned what was a glorious blue-skied afternoon into a downer for the Giants.
The noncontact aspect of this corresponds to a torn Achilles tendon and that is the season-ending injury the Giants suspect happened to Olszewski’s right lower leg.
“Did have the unfortunate incident at the end with Gunner,’’ head coach John Harbaugh said. “We’ll find out what the situation is with that. That was a noncontact, change-of-direction kind of a deal there in the grass, so that was disappointing.
Olszewski has served a dual role for the Giants. He was their primary kickoff and punt returner in 2025 and was going to be in contention to fill that role again. Olszewski is also a feisty slot receiver and if he was going to make the roster, he would have filled a role on offense as well as special teams.

He was with the Giants for part of the 2023 season but missed the 2024 season with a groin injury.

The speed and explosive burst from rookie LB Arvell Reese was evident on a pass rush from the left side that would have flattened Jaxson Dart in the backfield.
On the same series, Dart handed the ball off to Devin Singletary and the players on offense hooted and hollered for what was viewed as a big gain.
Reese, though, responded by shaking his head from side to side, a clear indication that he believed he would have plugged the hole and dropped Singletary for a minimal gain.
TE Theo Johnson had a strong practice, catching three touchdown passes. Or was it two? He hauled in a pass from Dart in the back of the end zone and the offense celebrated. CB Dru Phillips waved his arms to indicate Johnson stepped out of the end zone. The two officials hesitated and then waved their arms to signal the pass was not caught inbounds.
Dart floated a pass with a bit of improvisation to WR Ryan Miller for a TD but it is likely LB Micah McFadden would have either sacked or pressured Dart before the pass was thrown.
