The Mortal Kombat characters are headed back into battle in the Mortal Kombat II movie, opening in movie theaters this weekend. And this time around, they’ll be joined by American action hero Johnny Cage, played by Dr. Bones himself, Karl Urban.

This sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie—based on the famed ’80s video game franchise—is directed by Simon McQuoid (also directed the first film) and written by Jeremy Slater. Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, and Mehcad Brooks will reprise their roles as Sonya Blade, Kano, Liu Kang, and Jax respectively. Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, and Tati Gabrielle will all join the cast as Johnny Cage, Kitana, and Jade, respectively. The story will follow the Earthrealm champions in their many battles againts the Shao Kahn, who threaten to take over the world.

The first Mortal Kombat movie was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on streaming, as many audiences still weren’t ready to return to theaters amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a big hit for the streamer, and now Warner Bros. hope to replicate that success in theaters, only. But if you’d rather wait to watch the movie at home, read on to find out when and where we expect to see the Mortal Kombat 2 movie on streaming.

Where to watch the Mortal Kombat 2 movie:

Right now, the Mortal Kombat II movie is only available to watch in a movie theater when it opens in theaters on Friday, May 8. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. However, we do expect the new Mortal Kombat 2 movie to be on streaming eventually.

Is the Mortal Kombat 2 movie streaming on Netflix?

Mortal Kombat II is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Warner Bros. release, will have a streaming home on the Warner Bros.-owned streaming service, HBO Max. If you want to watch the new Mortal Kombat II movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on HBO Max.

You might see Mortal Kombat 2 streaming on HBO Max later this summer, around late July or August 2026.

All the new WB theatrical movies end up streaming on Max, though the wait period has varied by title. Wuthering Heights, for example, was released on PVOD about a month-and-a-half after opening in theaters, and began streaming on HBO Max about two-and-a-half months after it was released in theaters. If Mortal Kombat II follows a similar release pattern, you may see Mortal Kombat 2 on digital around late June 2026, and streaming on HBO Max around late July 2026.

But that’s pure speculation. The Warner Bros. home releases have varied by title. If you want to see Mortal Kombat II right away, your best is to catch the movie in theaters.
