Nina Joudeh · 2026-05-03 · via New York Post

Hundreds are descending on Culver City as IKEA officially opened it’s first LA-area ‘city-center’ location at its long-awaited new Helms Design District location.

Eager shoppers flooded the massive blue-and-yellow outpost on Saturday for opening-day deals, exploring home treasures, and joining in on family-friendly festivities.

Snapshots from the scene captured throngs of fans buzzing around, lining up outside the sprawling 38,000-square-foot space as the Swedish furniture giant welcomed its newest guests.

The grand opening celebration kicked off with a block party, complete with giveaways, music, and plenty of IKEA’s signature staples — including its iconic meatball dish, which remains a major draw for loyal customers.

“My mom and I really wanted to check out the new location and decorate my apartment. It’s nice that we don’t have to drive to Carson or Burbank to do it.”

She added that the celebratory perks included free food, live music and cool gifts that made the trip even more thrilling.

Unlike IKEA’s sprawling suburban warehouses, the Culver City location offers a more streamlined experience designed for city shoppers — while still delivering the beloved Scandinavian staples that have made the brand a global phenomenon.

The store also features “Swedish Bites,” a grab-and-go cafe offering snacks, sandwiches, and drinks, plus fan favorites like cinnamon buns and frozen Swedish meatballs from the IKEA Food Market.

For many Angelenos, the true highlight is IKEA itself, as the city celebrates the long-awaited arrival of this Westside destination.

IKEA currently operates full-service stores across the Golden State in Burbank, Carson, Costa Mesa, Covina, East Palo Alto, Emeryville, San Diego, San Francisco, and West Sacramento.
