Park Slope's anti-Israel coop: Letters to the Editor — May 30, 2026
Post readers · 2026-05-30 · via New York Post
5/27/26 Food Coop neon sign outside the Park Slope Food Coop. (pictured) The members last night voted to boycott, divest and sanction Israel for their conduct against the Palestinians in the Middle East. These real estate images of the Park Slope Food Coop were taken one day after the vote. Competing opinions about the BDS movement at the Park Slope Food Co-Op has led to a vote on BDS efforts at the food coop. Some folks believe the coop should boycott, divest and sanction any and all products or services related to Israel. Others at the food coop think it's a bad idea. The pro BDS folks won last night. 782 Union Street, Brooklyn, NY. Please credit Gregory P. Mango for NY Post.

The Issue: Park Slope Food Coop members voting to ban Israeli-made products from its shelves.

My neighbor and I lived on 4th Street and were founding members of the coop (“B’klyn little shop o’horror,” May 28).

Our goal was to save money, cut out the middle man and figure out how to keep perishables refrigerated. That should still be the only goal.

Stop turning everything into a battlefield of politics. Slopies just want to show how involved, sensitive and empathetic they are. Forget that crap. Just lower your food bill without all the divisiveness.

Michael Castagna

Brooklyn

So, the Jews of Park Slope are suddenly getting punched in the face by the boomerang effect of their progressivism. Maybe when there are no Israeli products allowed to be sold in all of New York City, they will begin to see the light — but I highly doubt it.

Ron Meador

Manhattan

To the Israel-haters who voted to boycott Israeli products in the Park Slope Coop, it is also incumbent on you to boycott Israeli innovations. Stop using UBS flash drives, Waze and PillCams, to name just a few.

Just think how much happier you would be ridding yourselves of all things Israeli.

J.J. Levine

Miami Beach, Fla.

I am not surprised to learn of the Park Slope Food Coop’s decision to ban Israeli products.

I was born and partly raised in Park Slope in the 1950s. It was a nice, safe working-class neighborhood. Now, it is a gentrified hotbed of leftists and Marxists who openly despise the previous Italian, Irish and Scandinavian residents, who’ve been priced out of the area.

Dennis Middlebrooks

Brooklyn

In a demonstration of blatant antisemitism, the lefty activists of the Park Slope Food Coop approved a boycott of Israeli-made products.

While these Israel-hating members use words like “apartheid” and “genocide,” it is clear they have no understanding of the history of Nazi atrocities against humanity that they are repeating. The real führer, Adolf Hitler, must be giving them the thumbs up from his bunker in hell.

Anthony Scro

Whitestone

The Park Slope Food Coop board speaks of genocide, but does not know the meaning of that term. Most of these idiots did not grow up during World War II.

If any Jewish family continues to be a member of this co-op, they can’t complain.

The Issue: Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill joining anti-ICE mobs in Newark as protests get violent toward agents.

If Gov. Mikie Sherrill put one-tenth of the effort she gives to illegal immigrants into Newark’s schools and public safety, the city would experience a renaissance (“Jersey anti-ICE clashes get hot,” May 27).

Sanctuary cities are a threat to the whole country. When Democrats refuse to allow ICE to deport illegal criminals, they abet these criminals.

Catherine Adago

Manhattan

Sherrill and Sens. Cory Booker and Andy Kim have been unfairly criticized for wanting to close the Newark ICE facility. They should be given the opportunity to explain how releasing murderers, rapists, pedophiles and child molesters is good for New Jersey.

Tracy Crapser

North Port, Fla.

New Jersey police should be ashamed of themselves (“Coldhearted mob,” May 29).

The governor ordered them not to assist ICE, and they not only obeyed, but stood by as their brothers were attacked by paid protesters. I don’t know how they can look at themselves in the mirror.

I pray the NYPD doesn’t follow their lead when asked for help by ICE.

Stephen Colasacco

The Bronx
