The Issue: Democrats’ role in instigating the latest assassination attempt against President Trump.

The level-headed people of this country should take a step back and look at where most, if not all, of the hate speech is coming from (“Time for Dems to put stop to vile rhetoric,” Karol Markowicz, April 28).

When our representatives in Congress make statements like “drink weed killer” or call for “maximum warfare everywhere all the time,” it destroys the integrity of not only those people but also Congress.

John Ketelsen

Ocean, NJ

What if the recent attempted mass assassination had been successful? Would the right be targeting high-level Democrats and propagandists? Would it have triggered a civil war? Death squads? Radical militias?

There needs to be a moratorium on incitement of political violence before it is too late.

Paul Hudson

Sarasota, Fla.

Wake up, America. We’ve witnessed the third attempt on President Trump’s life.

We have to stop all this hate by leaders of the Democratic Party. Give our president credit for all he has done. Stop the negativity in our media, TV, newspapers and on the internet.

Al Koproski

Stamford, Conn.

I’m sick of hearing liberal Democrats justify their hate speech against Trump by blaming him. I was never a fan of Barack Obama or Joe Biden, but I never wished them harm or death, even though I felt they did egregious harm to our country.

When people cheer when President Trump or any elected official is attacked or killed, something is horribly wrong, and Democrats’ horrible language and lies fuel this.

We should be teaching American history and pride for our great country, not hate and division.

Joann Mirone

Old Greenwich, Conn.

The country has to face the fact that these leftist fanatics have only one goal, and that is to destroy our country and what it stands for.

Our biggest threat is not Russia, China, North Korea or even Iran; it is the one from within.

Joseph Beyhl

Lake Ariell, Pa.

The left loves to generate fake stories or use profane language and call our president filthy names.

This man has tried to make America great again, and all these protesters and people in Congress care about is getting him killed with their language or inciting someone to do it. For the love of God, stop the madness. Grow up and show some respect.

Kate Phelan

Boca Raton, Fla.

President Abraham Lincoln, though hated by half of Americans, traveled freely, relatively unprotected.

It took a self-absorbed, attention-seeking actor, sneaking around in a dark theater, to end his life.

Trump’s opponents, many of whom speak in public of how they would like to see him dead, have used their bitterness to influence unstable lunatics, which has led to these direct attacks on the president.

The time has come for anyone who, directly or indirectly, inspires the violent lunacy that has permeated the political process of the present to be held accountable.

Rick Cabrera

Elmhurst

Three assassination attempts on Trump’s life is three too many. The Democratic Party has gone as ballistic as the shooters themselves, provoking others through anti-Trump propaganda. Our society must not accept this behavior.

The Democrats don’t act as an American political party. Instead they act as a cult of Trump antagonists waiting for the next assassination attempt on their president’s life.

Enough is enough. Their party is an embarrassment to the name of politics and to the decent citizens of our country.

Roberta Chaleff

Tamarac, Fla.

As if on cue, the media are trying to deflect from the fact that their rhetoric and covering for the Democrats’ inflammatory language led to the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

They do their typical “look over there,” focusing on whether security was the problem, rather than on how another lunatic leftist tried to assassinate the president.

Rob Cerone
