It’s official: Horror fans are obsessed with Obsession, the new horror movie written and directed by Curry Barker (best known for his 2024 found-footage horror film Milk & Serial).
Since it’s release last month, Obsession has been gaining steadily at the box office, thanks to word-of-mouth rave reviews from movie goers. The movie is in its second week and theaters, and landed second on the domestic box office chart this weekend, beating out the new Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu movie (which was still in its first week). That’s a big deal! Obsession has already made over $148,000,000 at the worldwide box office, and that number just keeps going up.
The movie stars Michael Johnston as a young romantic named Bear, who works at a music shop alongside his childhood bestie, Nikki (Inde Navarrette). Bear laments that he’s stuck in the friend zone with Nikki. So when he happens upon a supernatural object in a New Age store that purports to grant him a wish, he wishes for Nikki to fall in love with him. And boy, does he get what he wished for! As it turns out, it’s not so fun having a girl be obsessed with you.
If you’d rather wait to watch the movie at home, instead of joining the masses at the movie theater, read on to find out what we know about when and where the Obsession 2026 movie will be streaming, and what we know about the Obsession digital release date.
We don’t know exactly when Obsession will leave theaters, but Obsession will most likely only be in theaters for the next two or three weeks. Obsession was released by Focus Features, a subsidiary of Universal Pictures, on May 15, 2026. With some exceptions, most Focus Features releases only stay in theaters for about one month.
While it’s possible the success of Obsession will keep the film in theaters for longer, our best guess is that Obsession will be out of theaters by the last weekend in June, possibly even sooner. So if you want to see Obsession in theaters, don’t wait to buy a ticket!
The Obsession digital release date has not yet been announced, but you will most likely see Obsession on digital either on Tuesday June 16, or on Tuesday June 23. Obsession was released by Focus Features, and most Focus Features movies come to digital on a Tuesday, about one month after releasing in theaters. In the case of Obsession, that would be Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
That said, it’s possible the box office success of Obsession will keep the film in theaters for longer. You might need to wait until Tuesday June 23, or even Tuesday June 30, before Obsession releases on digital to buy and rent.
The first place you’ll be able watch Obsession movie at home will be to buy or rent on digital platforms, followed by a streaming release on Peacock, free to Peacock subscribers.
Peacock currently offers two subscription types: Premium with ads and Premium Plus ad-free. Peacock Premium costs $10.99/month, while Premium Plus costs $16.99/month.
You can save a bit by subscribing to one of Peacock’s annual plans, which give you 12 months for the price of 10. These cost either $109.99 with ads or $169.99 without ads.
Peacock Premium Plus is also available to subscribe to via Prime Video with a seven-day free trial that you can’t get by subscribing directly on Peacock.
The Obsession movie streaming release date on Peacock has not yet been announced, but you will likely see Obsession streaming on Peacock in late summer or early fall 2026. Another Universal horror release, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, began streaming on Peacock about four months after the movie opened in theaters. But some movies, like MEGAN 2.0 came to Peacock after just three months.
If Obsession follows a similar release pattern streaming on Peacock around mid-September 2026. That said, other Universal movies have taken just three, or even two months to come to Peacock, so you may see Obsession on Peacock even earlier, around August 2026.
You will be able to purchase Obsession on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital. You will also eventually be able to stream Obsession on Prime Video, free with a Prime subscription, four months after the movie streams on Peacock.
This is thanks to the deal between Universal and Amazon that sends Universal movies to Peacock for the first four months of the “Pay 1 window,” then to Amazon Prime Video for the next months of the window, followed by four more months on Peacock. If our prediction for when Obsession will be on Peacock is correct, then you should see Obsession streaming on Prime around February 2027.
