Giants' Jaxson Dart breaks silence on controversial Trump...

Jaxson Dart addressed the fallout of his introduction of Donald Trump at a rally last week publicly for the first time.

The Giants quarterback, facing the media for the first time since causing a stir with his appearance alongside the President at Rockland Community College last Friday, explained the move that has caused the team to hold a closed-door meeting.

“Obviously this was a unique opportunity, being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States,” Dart said.

“My thinking was pretty simple in the fact, I’ve always loved this country, I have extended family members who have fought in wars, I have two uncles who have retired from the Air Force academy and served themselves. I even have a great grandfather who served as the Secretary of the Treasury at some point. The president position has always been a position I’ve well respected regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party and my intentions were just that.”

The move drew questions from at least one teammate, linebacker Abdul Carter, though he and several others made a point to publicly say everything between them was fine.

The message, however, was seemingly received by Dart.

“I also understand in this world, politics can be a sensitive matter, a sensitive topic,” he said.

“I also understand that I’m the quarterback of the New York Giants and that involves a lot of responsibility — it’s under a limelight, under a microscope and there’s a lot that comes with that, and its something that I’ve embraced.”

The QB was one of multiple players to speak at a meeting before practice this week, during which veterans Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Jameis Winston also addressed the team, with the leaders stressing keeping things internal and not airing frustrations publicly, per ESPN.

“I can honestly say that I love every single one of my brothers, my teammates on this team, regardless of politics, regardless of religious beliefs, regardless of anything that may be different between us,” Dart said. “They know exactly what kind of person I am that comes into the facility every single day.

“I think that connection that we built are special because we’re able to have vulnerable conversations, we’re able to learn from each other, to support each other regardless of the color of our skin. We’ve had a lot of honest conversations with each other as a team, I’d like to keep those things private between me any my teammates.”

Dart and Carter embraced in a hug on the practice field.
