In the eight years since FIFA confirmed that the USA would be one of three host countries for the 2026 World Cup, building a team where most players would be in their prime by the time 2026 rolled around was a priority.
After a rough March window with two losses, the USMNT played two friendlies over the past two weeks with a starting lineup that looks similar to what will likely be seen tonight. In the first, the USMNT defeated Senegal, 3-2, but they fell to Germany, 2-1, a week later.
USMNT vs. Paraguay: what to know
Paraguay is back in the World Cup for the first time since 2010, when they recorded their best-ever result. After winning their group and defeating Japan in the Round of 16, they were knocked out by Spain in the quarterfinal round. The USMNT faced Paraguay in a friendly last November and won, 2-1.
The USMNT is a favorite in tonight’s matchup and a favorite to win Group D at large.
