There’s a new Star Wars movie coming to you very soon, in a galaxy very nearby, and that’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, which opens in movie theaters this weekend.
The film is directed Jon Favreau, who followed up his success on the Iron Man films by creating the Disney+ original series The Mandalorian, which ran for three seasons from 2019 to 2023, and told the story of a bounty hunter (played by Pedro Pascal) who protects a Force-sensitive child, Grogu (played by a puppet who I still call Baby Yoda), from remnant Imperial forces. The movie will pick up where the show left off. Bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pascal) and his apprentice Grogu join up with the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt (played by The Bear star Jeremy Allen White).
Also starring Brendan Wayne, Lateef Crowder, and Sigourney Weaver, The Mandalorian and Grogu marks the first Star Wars film released in theaters since 2019’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Does the George Lucas franchise still have the juice to get butts in seats? Probably! But if you’d rather wait to watch the movie at home, then read on to find out where and when we expect to see Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu movie on streaming.
Right now, the only place to watch The Mandalorian and Grogu movie is in a movie theater, when the movie opens in theaters on Friday, May 22. You can find a showing at a movie theater near you via Fandango. The Mandalorian and Grogu is not available to stream online at this time, but will eventually be streaming on Disney+.
The Mandalorian and Grogu movie is not streaming on Netflix, and most likely will never be streaming on Netflix. This is due to the fact that The Mandalorian and Grogu is a Disney movie and will have a streaming home on the Disney-owned streamer, Disney+.
Disney+ offers a number of subscription options, so you can find the one that works for you. With ads, a subscription costs $11.99/month; without ads, it’s $18.99/month or $189.99/year.
There are also Disney+ bundles with Hulu, HBO Max, and ESPN+, so you can subscribe to up to three services at once and save over 40% every month. The bundles are available in a few different configurations, starting at $11.99/month for Disney+ and Hulu with ads, and going up to $32.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max ad-free.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is not yet streaming on Disney+. Right now, the movie is only playing in theaters. That said, we do expect to see The Mandalorian and Grogu streaming on Disney+ eventually. While a The Mandalorian and Grogu Disney+ release date has not yet been announced, we can make an educated guess as to when the movie will be streaming based on previous Disney releases.
Another recent big Disney movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash was released on premium video-on-demand about three months after opening in theaters, and will begin streaming on Disney+ on June 24, a little over six months after opening in theaters. If The Mandalorian and Grogu follows a similar release strategy, you may see The Mandalorian and Grogu on digital platforms around late August 2026, and streaming on Disney+ around late November 2026.
But this is all speculation. If you want to watch the new The Mandalorian and Grogu movie ASAP, you can catch the movie in theaters. And in the meantime, you can watch the all the other Star Wars movies and TV shows on Disney+.
