The Issue: Former FBI Director James Comey indicted for a second time over his “86 47” Instagram post.

The latest indictment of former FBI Director James Comey will again prove to be fruitless and another loss for his irascible former boss (“Comey turns self in,” May 1).

“86” means no more than, “get rid of,” not “kill” — i.e., get rid of that ref, get rid of that menu item and, in this case, impeach Trump. That’s it, no more, no less.

Finally, almost a year later, James Comey will be held accountable for his threatening Instagram post. After three assassination attempts, Trump can’t be too careful. Comey can’t fool anyone by playing dumb about what the numbers mean.

Precedent will be set if he’s tried, found guilty and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Fingers crossed.

After a shocking attempted assassination at the White House Correspondents’ dinner, the Justice Department made a mockery of genuine acts of political violence by indicting James Comey for a second time.

This baseless legal mischief-making will only incite further rancor in a nation already at its boiling point.

Comey has been indicted once again, but now for a silly social-media post. “86 47” could have a wide variety of meanings; only the most biased of jurists would allow this indictment to go to trial.

Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized that any attempt to threaten or harm a president will be investigated by the Department of Justice and the FBI. On its face, I agree; the rule of law demands no less.

But consistency matters. For example, the “86 47” image was widely shared across social media by thousands of users. Are all of them subject to investigation?

Equal justice under law is not just a slogan. It is a standard that must be upheld without fear or favor.

The Issue: Jimmy Kimmel’s joke about First Lady Melania Trump looking like an “expectant widow.”

Jimmy Kimmel is not funny with his sick rhetoric (“ABC backs ‘coward’ Kimmel,” April 29).

Disney and ABC should cut him loose; he has not been funny for a long time.

What has happened to the media in this country? Once you could watch the news and get the facts about a happening story. Now you don’t know what the truth is or you just hear the opinions of some person telling the news with little facts to back them up.

Kimmel’s jokes are mild compared to the things Trump has said or posted throughout his term.

Jimmy is a comedian; like him or not, he has the right under the US Constitution to use his freedom of speech in any form he desires, of course walking the tightrope on what could be considered defamation. The whiners are obviously MAGA. Who are the snowflakes now?

Jimmy Kimmel hates President Trump, and that’s his right. It’s also his right to express those feelings. But it shouldn’t be allowed on a TV show, because half of the population likes Trump.

Two things: First, if you hate someone, never bring their family into it. Second, never tell a lie to try to cover up what you actually mean. You’re insulting the intelligence of your audience.
