Kid's birthday dinner heartlessly ruined after family is ...

A family with plans to celebrate a birthday was barred from a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in the Bay Area this week after they said staff discriminated against them over the restaurant’s dress code.

TikTok creator Against All Odds, who has 1.3 million followers on the account, said the popular steakhouse location “discriminates and chooses who & when they want to enforce ‘policy,'” after her 13-year-old son and 6 other people were turned away due to an alleged dress code violation.

The creator claimed the restaurant enforced its policy inconsistently, noting her sister was turned away for wearing a tracksuit — despite previously wearing one there without issue.

This location discriminates and chooses who & when they want to enforce “policy”. And this manager is RUDE. Backstory: Reservation for my son’s 13th birthday, party of 8, all except one person (my sister) were dressed in accordance with their “policy”. My sister had on a tracksuit. Her & I were just here in February and I myself had on the same tracksuit in a different color with no problems. In fact we’ve been to this exact location several times wearing casual clothing. This evening as soon as we walked in the woman who stated she was the manager immediately gave my family a once over and seemed to turn her nose up while asking if my sister who was standing in our group was with us… I said “um yeaaaa” and she proceeded to say we could not eat in the dining area with her dressed like that. I asked what was different from February when we were here and she disregarded my question. To make matters worse I look behind me and there is someone seated in the main dining area with an all black hoodie on which the policy the lady was holding in our face says is unacceptable. When I pointed out that the policy does not mention tracksuits she started talking about cannabis and how that’s not listed on the policy either because it makes people upset but that they “don’t have to be that detailed” …. After trying to explain to another manager that we visit this establishment almost every month and dress code has never been enforced which has now caused confusion the only resolution we were offered was to sit separately in the bar area. Needless to say I’ll never spend another $1 with this establishment ever again!! #makethisviral #makethisgoviral #ruthchris #ruthchrissteakhouse #fyp

In a video captioned “Ruth Chris Walnut Creek Ruined My Sons 13th Birthday Dinner,” the creator argues with an employee at the Ruth’s Chris establishment, telling her to put “tracksuit” on the business’s dress code posting.

“The verbiage doesn’t specifically say tracksuit, I could make one and put the word tracksuit right here,” the employee said. The sign says it prohibits baseball caps, gym/athletic wear, tank tops, clothing with offensive language, revealing clothing, clothing with exposed undergarments, and pool attire.

“You should, cause it doesn’t say that right here,” the creator argued.

The employee went on to explain that they don’t need to go into detail on why the specific wording doesn’t say tracksuit.

The Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Walnut Creek confirmed to The California Post that it has a business casual dress policy, which bans sweatpants, athletic wear, see-through clothing, and bare skin-showing clothing.

The video poster refused an offer from a different employee to put the family at the bar because she said she did not want to split the family up. She also condemned the restaurant and pledged to post the interaction online.

“We won’t be coming here anymore, and just to be clear, I will be making [the interaction] very public,” she said.

“This evening as soon as we walked in the woman who stated she was the manager immediately gave my family a once over and seemed to turn her nose up while asking if my sister who was standing in our group was with us,” she added in the video’s caption.

Commenters on the creator’s video told her she was wrong.

“A track suit is athletic wear,” a comment with over 1,000 likes said.

“Thank you Ruth Chris!” another said.

“I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but you are in the wrong. 100%,” a third stated.

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse cracked down on diners’ attire starting last month.

Parent company Darden Restaurants, which operates 162 restaurants across the globe, warned its guests that the vibe is strictly “business casual,” and requires “proper attire.”

The steakhouse chain was established by Ruth Fertel in 1965 and is known for its self-professed recipe for success: “Perfect steak, warm hospitality and good times that never stop rolling.”

The California Post reached out to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and TikTok creator Against All Odds for comment on the incident.
