The New York Jets are giving Geno Smith a second try.
After an up-and-down tenure with the club from 2013-16, General Manager Darren Mougey brought the 12-year NFL veteran back for another go-round this season.
“I still have a ton of years left on my body to play this game and I want to continue to try and maximize it,” the 35-year-old said on March 12. “…I believe the Jets are getting a better player than I was in Seattle. I know that for a fact, in fact.”
Smith comes to the club after a rough season for Gang Green.
In 2025, Aaron Glenn stepped in as head coach and led the team to a dismal 3-14 record in his inaugural campaign. To add insult to injury, the organization traded stars Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams while releasing Allen Lazard.
Thankfully, Mougey got busy this offseason.
On top of drafting elite edge rusher David Bailey with the second pick in the NFL draft (and scooping up tight end Kenyon Sadiq at No. 16 and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds at No. 50), the front office signed standout safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, rising defensive end Joseph Ossai, nose tackle David Onyemata and interception machine cornerback Nahshon Wright, which is a major help after the squad recorded zero (!) picks last year — an NFL first.
Fan favorites Garrett Wilson, Olu Fashanu and Breece Hall are also slated to return.
And, now, that the ’26 schedule has been released, the new-look Jets know who they’ll get to flex their re-tooled roster against.
Notable home games on their itinerary at East Rutherford, NJ’s MetLife Stadium include matchups against powerhouses like Jordan Love’s Green Bay Packers (Sept. 20), Josh Allen’s Buffalo Bills (Nov. 15), Bo Nix’s Denver Broncos (Dec. 13), and Drake Maye’s New England Patriots (Dec. 27).
They’ll also meet up with Smith’s former team, Fernando Mendoza’s Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Nov. 1.
