Arnold Schwarzenegger has weighed in on California’s gas crisis, saying the state’s policies are a “mistake” that are crippling drivers.

The former Republican governor of the Golden State kicked off his Austrian World Summit with a push for more solar panels and an attack on his party’s embrace of coal and fossil fuels.

But he also seemed flabbergasted by California Democrats: “I would have to say California is making some major mistakes policy wise because they make fuel very expensive,” he said.

He noted the state’s gas prices, which have seen record highs this year, are way more expensive compared to the rest of the US.

As of Tuesday, the state has a $5.71-per-gallon price compared to the national average of $4.04. Part of that mistake, he said, is legislators are resistant to the idea of opening more refineries in California.

“So the refineries now go to Texas. So now you have to go ship all the oil to Texas, then you have to refine it, and then you have to go ship it back again. What do you think happens when you ship? That’s pollution,” Schwarzenegger explained.

“It’s absolutely contradictory to what they believe in. So they look confused,” he added.

Critics like oil companies have insisted that the Iran war — which has constrained global oil supply — have exposed the state’s overreliance on foreign oil.

The Trump administration is attempting to restart some domestic production, though Gov. Gavin Newsom and others are fighting back.

Still, even state Democrats took some steps to avoid more refinery closures in the state, such as negotiating with the oil industry to boost stagnating production in Kern County.

Newsom has blamed the war in the Middle East for the sky-high gas prices Californians are seeing this year.

“American families shouldn’t have to pay the price for Trump’s negligence,” he said in a statement Monday.
