Samara Weaving and Jason Segel find themselves in a bit of an awkward situation in their new action comedy thriller, Over Your Dead Body, which opens in movie theaters this weekend. You see, they were both secretly planning to kill the other on their romantic getaway. Oops!
Directed by Jorma Taccone (Quaid Army) with a screenplay written by sketch comedians and filmmakers Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, Over Your Dead Body stars Weaving and Segel as couple who hopes to rekindle the spark in their relationship via a vacation at a remote cabin in the woods. Or at least, that’s what they want the other to believe. But it soon turns out both Weaving and Segel had planned to kill the other. Again, awkward. But their might be other threats besides each other out here in the woods.
Also starring Paul Guilfoyle, Keith Jardine, Timothy Olyphant, and Juliette Lewis, Over Your Dead Body first premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival last month. It sounds like a fun one to watch on the big screen with a crowd, but if you’d rather wait to watch the movie at home, then read on to find out what we know about when and where Over Your Dead Body will be streaming.
For now, the Over Your Dead Body movie will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in select theaters in the U.S. on Friday, April 24. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Over Your Dead Body is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Over Your Dead Body is not streaming on Netflix or Max right now. While it’s possible Over Your Dead Body may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie. Over Your Dead Body is not a Netflix original; Over Your Dead Body is a small, independent film being distributed by Independent Film Company (formerly IFC) in the U.S.
You will be able to purchase Over Your Dead Body on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Over Your Dead Body on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. (That said, Over Your Dead Body is being released internationally by Amazon Prime Video, so it’s possible it may stream free on Prime Video someday.) But the first way you’ll be able to watch Over Your Dead Body movie at home, will be to buy or rent it on digital platforms.
The Over Your Dead Body movie digital release date has not yet been announced. However, we can make an educated guess as to when we might see Over Your Dead Body on video-on-demand, based on the digital release of previous films from this studio, Independent Film Company.
Another Independent Film Company movie, The Plague, was released was released on digital platforms about six weeks after opening in theaters. If Over Your Dead Body follows a similar pattern, you might see Over Your Dead Body on video-on-demand around early June 2026, or about six weeks after the movie opens in theaters.
While many of the IFC horror films go to Shudder, in this case, Over Your Dead Body is more of an action comedy and not a horror movie, and therefore likely will not go on to stream on Shudder, which specializes in horror movies.
This is all speculation. Digital releases vary by title. If you want to see Over Your Dead Body right away, you can catch the movie in a theater.
