The Issue: An anti-Israel protest-turned-riot outside of Park East Synagogue.

In his zealous support for free speech, Mayor Mamdani has promoted his No. 1 political agenda: to weaken the state of Israel at all costs (“Hizzoner with mob vs. Jews,” May 7).

If the mayor were to put as much effort into his socialist agenda for affordability as he does for debunking real-estate transactions in the Jewish state, his constituents might see lower rents and free groceries.

Robert S. April

Manhattan

When it comes to anti-semitism, there’s truly nothing new under the sun. This centuries-old hatred remains viable and vibrant because of the silent response it commonly engenders.

Mayor Mamdani’s city holds the world’s largest Jewish population outside of Israel; he proudly smiles and remains mum when Jews are attacked and demonized. His silence speaks volumes.

S.P. Hersh

Lawrence

Naturally, Mayor Mamdani takes the side of the anti-semitic rioters.

Those are his people; they’re the only “New Yorkers” he cares about. They are the ones who put him in office.

Today’s “anti-colonialists,” such as the members of the ignorant mob battling the police officers outside the synagogue, are, like their comrade Mamdani, Hitler’s children.

David Rabinovitz

Brooklyn

I went to pray at the evening services at Park East Synagogue on the night of the protest. I was a block away from the synagogue when I heard a group of masked protesters chanting “We don’t want two states, we want ’48” and “Globalize the Intifada.”

It quickly became apparent that these protesters were not simply against the sale of homes in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, they were calling for an end to the state of Israel.

It was not a protest against the sale of homes. It was a violent hate rally.

Another day, another pogrom in New York City. Mayor Mamdani states that every group has a right to “gather.” It’s becoming a daily occurrence in every borough.

There is fear in every Jewish community in the city. As long as there are no consequences, this will continue.

The Issue: Jim Quinn writes about the consequences of “no bail” and other criminal justice reforms.

The “elder parole” and “timely parole release” bills aimed at springing “New York’s worst killers” are beyond woke (“Lesson: ‘No bail’ terrible mistake,” Jim Quinn, May 5).

Even in the DC comic books, the politicians wouldn’t release the Joker or Two-Face out of Arkham Asylum to wreak havoc on Gotham.

New York’s progressive left (and the rest of the Northeast) either don’t understand or don’t care about the repercussions such reckless policies will have on the law-abiding citizens who will pay the ultimate price for their hubris.

Francis R. Cooley

Plainville, Conn.

Concerted efforts by hard-left lawmakers that would enable the very worst examples of humanity incarcerated in New York’s prisons to gain their freedom after reaching a certain age (despite their sentence) is another example of the left’s obsession with undermining traditional western values.

While protecting the public is a critical component, the principles of punishment and retribution undermine the very glue that tenuously holds our society together.

It’s a very sad day when proponents of this legislative madness have reached numbers where they can inflict their distorted values on the inhabitants of the state.

Mitchell Schwefel

Barnegat, NJ
