The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is double-jumping onto digital platforms this week, which means you’ll be watch Mario, Luigi, Bowser and friends explore the galaxy from the comfort of your couch.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a sequel to the record-breaking 2023 film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, as well as an adaptation of the based on the 2007 Nintendo video game Super Mario Galaxy and its 2010 sequel. Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black will all reprise their roles from the first film, as the voices of Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Bowser, respectively. Joining the cast this time around includes Benny Safdie as the voice of Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as the voice of Yoshi, Brie Larson as the voice Princess Rosalina, Glen Powell as the voice of Fox McCloud, and Issa Rae as the voice of the Honey Queen.
The plot follows Italian plumbers Mario and Luigi, who embark with their friends on a journey to outer space, where they team up with some new friends to once again face off against the evil Bowser. But this time, Bowser has back-up: Bowser Jr.! Mwahahaha!
Like the first film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was a box office hit, and is so far the highest-grossing film of 2026. Now, Universal hopes to make even more money off the film with the digital release. But before you drop $30 for a movie where Chris Pratt voices Mario, you should know that we expect to see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie streaming on Peacock, free to subscribers, before the end of the year.
Beginning on Tuesday, May 5 at 12 a.m. ET (which is also May 4 at 9 p.m. PT), The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be available to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime, the film costs $29.99 to buy a digital copy, and costs $24.99 to rent. If you rent the film, you’ll have 48 hours to watch the movie after hitting “play.”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie not yet available to watch on a streaming service that’s subscription-based, but we do expect to see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie streaming on Peacock soon, free to anyone with a Peacock subscription, because the film is a Universal release.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie might stream on Peacock around August 2026.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie streaming release date on Peacock has not yet been announced, but we know that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will stream on Peacock in the not-too-distant future, because it is a Universal movie, and Peacock is the streaming service owned by NBCUniversal. All the new Universal theatrical movies end up streaming on Peacock, though the wait period has varied by title.
Another Universal release, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will begin streaming on Peacock about four months after the movie opened in theaters. If The Super Mario Galaxy Movie follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie streaming on Peacock around August 2026.
Peacock currently offers two subscription types: Premium with ads and Premium Plus ad-free. Peacock Premium costs $10.99/month, while Premium Plus costs $16.99/month.
You can save a bit by subscribing to one of Peacock’s annual plans, which give you 12 months for the price of 10. These cost either $109.99 with ads or $169.99 without ads.
Peacock Premium Plus is also available to subscribe to via Prime Video with a seven-day free trial that you can’t get by subscribing directly on Peacock.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will likely stream on Netflix eventually, after four months after it streams on Peacock, as part of Universal’s deal with Netflix that sends Universal animated movies, including DreamWorks and Illumination, to Netflix for a limited period. If our prediction for the Peacock release The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is correct, then you might see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie streaming on Netflix around January 2027.
Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.
This is all speculation. The Universal home releases have not been consistent. If you want to watch The Super Mario Galaxy Movie movie right away, you can buy or rent the film online.
