At least one person was killed and 11 others injured as an active shooter opened fire in West Texas and barricaded himself inside a building Friday, officials said.
Police in Midland said they were in a “standoff” with “an active shooter” after gunfire erupted around 8 a.m. Friday morning, with videos capturing the sound of several shots.
“Officers heard gunfire coming from the building and worked quickly to secure and clear the area,” Midland Police Chief Greg Snow said in a statement.

“Armored units were deployed, and partner agencies assisted in the response. Efforts to bring the standoff with the shooter to a safe resolution are ongoing.”
Mayor Lori Blong has confirmed that at least one person has died and another 11 were injured.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and our officers,” she said in a news conference.
