A Bills legend and Hall of Fame quarterback revealed he dealt with a new health scare recently.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Bills’ new stadium Tuesday, Jim Kelly said that he suffered a stroke this spring and spent a few days in the hospital, but is now feeling better.

“I had a little setback about a month and a half ago,” Kelly told reporters. “But right now, I feel good. Eyesight’s not great. My hearing still sucks, but that’s part of life.”

“It’s part of getting old, but I feel really good. Scans have been clean and all. Everything’s good, all good,” Kelly added.

The 66-year-old has dealt with numerous health issues over the years, having been diagnosed with cancer multiple times.

In 2013, Kelly had surgery to remove squamous cell carcinoma of the upper jawbone. He was declared cancer-free soon after.

A year later, he underwent chemotherapy treatment when cancer was found in his maxillary sinus.

Kelly’s third cancer occurrence was in 2018, as he had surgeries to remove oral cancer and reconstruct his upper jaw.

Before retiring in 1997, Kelly threw for 35,467 yards and 237 touchdowns across 11 years with the Bills. His squad advanced to four consecutive Super Bowls from 1991-94, though the Bills infamously went 0-4.

Kelly was then inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002.

He said Tuesday that he’s excited to attend games at the new Highmark Stadium this fall with his grandson.

The Bills legend, who still lives in Western New York, said he’s planning to attend the Bills home opener on Sept. 17 against the Lions.

“It’s going to be special, not only for players, but imagine the fans in there, how crazy and wild and loud they’re going to get,” Kelly said. “And that’s what I’m looking forward to. I want to see how loud this stadium can get. And from what I’ve been told, it’s going to be unbelievable, but I don’t expect anything less.”

Much like Kelly in the 1990s, the Bills enter 2026 looking to get over the hump and capture their first Super Bowl win.

The Bills’ season kicks off Sept. 13 against the Texans.
