Last week, Abbott Elementary gifted fans a rare, exciting two-episode treat. The back-to-back installments, “Ava & Fest” and “Miami,” revealed the fate of Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory’s (Tyler James Williams) relationship, saw Ava (Janelle James) pull off another legendary Ava Fest with help from Dominic (Luke Tennie), welcomed several special guests, saw the Abbott crew attend PECSA weekend in Miami, and delivered several jaw-dropping twists. So naturally, fans can’t wait for more!

Curious what other classroom chaos Abbott Elementary has in store for Janine, Gregory, Ava, Dom, Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph), Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter), Jacob (Chris Perfetti), and Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis)? And is a new episode of Abbott Elementary on this week? We’ve got info!

Curious how many episodes are in Abbott Elementary Season 5? Has ABC renewed or canceled Abbott Elementary yet? Will there be an Abbott Elementary Season 6? Is Abbott Elementary on tonight, April 29? And when Abbott Elementary returns with new episodes?

Here’s everything we know about the future of the beloved ABC comedy.

Is Abbott Elementary On Tonight (4/29/26)?

Sadly, no! If you tune into ABC on Wednesday, April 29 expecting to watch a new episode of Abbott Elementary (or even a re-run) you’re out of luck. Instead, ABC will be airing an episode of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.

How Many Episodes Are In Abbott Elementary Season 5?

Like Season 4 before it, Abbott Elementary Season 5 consisted of 22 episodes, which means “Miami” (which aired on Wednesday, April 22) was the season finale.

Will There Be An Abbott Elementary Season 6?

While Abbott Elementary Season 5 wrapped last week, rest assured that school will be back in session! On March 4, ABC renewed Brunson’s Emmy-winning comedy for Season 6. HOORAY! It’s worth noting that Abbott was also the network’s first scripted renewal of this 2026 season and five seasons in, the series still maintains solid Hulu and Disney+ viewership. It’s no surprise that ABC wants more! And so do fans! Read on for what to expect.

Abbott Elementary Season 5 Ending Explained: What Will Abbott Elementary Season 6 Be About?

While prepping for another Ava Fest to remember, Janine and Gregory thankfully realized they were letting their parents’ past relationship advice and baggage cloud their judgement, so they vowed to prioritize healthy communication in the future and got back together! Thank you, Abbott! We couldn’t handle a break up that lasted a whole hiatus.

Before Season 5 concluded, the Abbott crew headed to Miami for PECSA and learned some terrible news: 20 schools, including Abbott, would be closing. Everyone understandably grieved and feared for their futures, but thanks to the funds spent on the school’s new furnace, acting superintendent Derek Collins (Geoffrey Owens) spared Abbott. Because of other school closures, however, the teachers were told that Abbott would have to accommodate larger class sizes in the future, which meant they needed an assistant principal. Gregory secured the job, and he also admitted to O’Shon (Matthew Law) that he was thinking about proposing to Janine!!!

Abbott Elementary Season 6 will likely pick up post-school closures and follow Abbott’s finest as they navigate the challenges of taking on new students. We’ll see Gregory and Ava working together, Jacob may get more involved with the district as hinted in the finale, and I’m sure we’ll see lots more exciting guest stars in the future. We could even seen Gregory and Janine take the next step in their relationship! And we can’t wait! So when will Abbott return with new episodes?

When Does Abbott Elementary Season 6 Premiere?

Since Abbott Elementary Season 5 just ended, an official Season 6 premiere date has yet to be announced, but based on network TV schedules past we can likely expect the show to return with new episodes in fall 2026. Both Season 4 and Season 5 ran from October to April, so Season 6 will hopefully premiere in October again! Stay tuned for more updates.
