One famous pop star is elated with her country’s start in the 2026 World Cup

Colombia native Shakira couldn’t contain her excitement after the team won their second game Tuesday against the DR Congo 1-0. However, the singer was unable to attend the game as she is on her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” World Tour.

But that did not stop her from following her team closely. While backstage after her show in Dallas, when she heard about Colombia’s victory, the 49-year-old said, “Colombia just won!” and began celebrating with members of her crew.

The four-time Grammy winner and 15-time Latin Grammy winner’s connection to the World Cup is not just as a fan.

In 2010, Shakira was chosen to create a song for the World Cup hosted in South Africa. That opportunity led to the creation of ‘Waka Waka’, one of the most popular songs of her career.

She also produced a song for the 2026 World Cup, titled ‘Dai Dai’, which has charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was performed at the opening ceremony of the first World Cup game, held in Mexico City.
