It was only a matter of time before Wendy’s joined in on the pickle craze.

From Burger King pickle fries to KFC’s new pickle menu and Popeyes Pickle Glaze Chicken Sandwich, the tangy snack has taken over fast-food chains. 

Wendy’s newest addition is the Dill Pickle Shaker Fries and Dill Chicken Sandwich.

Similar to McDonald’s limited-time Grinch Meal, with dill-flavored “Grinch Salt” for customers to shake in a bag of fries, Wendy’s will be serving their crispy fries pre-seasoned in dill pickle seasoning. 

But U.S. Wendy’s fans are missing out, as the item will not be on menus in the US. Even without the pickles, there is a sour taste in their mouth.

“How is this not American? We have pickle everything,” one Instagrammer wrote on the @snackolator post.

“The grinch salt almost sent me to the ER…..But i love dill pickle anything so this sucks for me,” said another.

Wendy’s is also including an all-new Pickle Chicken Sandwich, loaded with extra pickle slices and a zesty pickle-infused mayo. Customers can choose from Classic or Spicy Chicken. 

To complete the big-dill experience, a Dill Pickle Dipping Sauce is available on the side, for those who want to drizzle it on nuggets, fries and burgers. 

For now, this tangy snack is only on Canadian menus. The sandwich retails for $8.39 CAN, while the fries come in at $3.49 CAN.

The pickle-flavored trend sparked the creation of pickle chips, crackers and snacks, adding dill seasoning to anything imaginable. Luis Martinez, a food science-focused culinary manufacturer, explained what is behind the pickle obsession that started last summer. 

“Gen Z has an appetite for bold, trendy flavors paired with the popularity of pickle-centric posts on social media,” he said, while also noting that there is a health-conscious aspect as fermented foods provide gut health support. 

He noted that searches for #pickles on TikTok had a combined 9.6 billion views. But some Canadians think Wendy’s is too little too late. 

“Wendy’s is always late to the party SMH,” one Instagrammer wrote on Wendy’s Canada’s Instagram. “Harvey’s overdid it with their lame constant pickle menu and now you guys hop on the bandwagon when everyone is probably sick of pickles LMFAO.”

“Just stop with the Dill Pickle shit. It’s getting annoying at this point. Do something different,” commented another.

Even though the U.S. is missing out on pickle fries, they can relish in the Minions’ and Monsters’ menu that Canadians don’t have. The Minions & Monsters meals include upgrades such as an all-new Banana Frosty Swirl®, two themed beverages, Pineapple Minion MischieFizz, and Goomi’s Glimey Lime, and exclusive blind-box collectibles, in collaboration with the new movie.

“Plz bring the minions meal to Canada,” urged a Canadian on the post, revealing the pickle-fries.

“Girl, where is the banana frosty?” said another.

The “Big Dill” lineup launched on June 8, and while it is highly sought after by American fans, whether the items will come stateside remains unconfirmed.

But one thing remains: whether they are shaking dill seasoning into a bag or hunting for a banana-flavored Frosty, customers will always find something new to crave- or complain about online.
