I’m a messy girl.

I’m the kind of person who hates cleaning and will only reach for her vacuum once every two weeks (if my floors are lucky).

That’s why any product, like the Shark WandVac, that makes my life a little bit easier is always appreciated. It’s a lightweight everyday Shark vacuum that keeps my bed and couch free of any food crumbs.

Shark WANDVAC

Collage of a hand holding a gold Shark handheld vacuum on a sofa, and a close-up of the vacuum's dust cup.

Pros:

  • Easy to set up and can be used straight out of the box
  • Great suction for its size
  • Extremely lightweight and portable

Cons:

  • Battery life leaves a lot to be desired.

I love this portable hand vac that can clean up dust, dirt and debris with ease, especially those pesky food crumbs from snacking in bed. Battery life runs about 20 minutes and the vacuum comes with two extra attachments for pet hair pickup and crevice cleaning.

The Shark WandVac is a tiny, compact vacuum that is completely cordless, making it super easy to transport around your home. In fact, it weighs less than two pounds, meaning you can even take it with you on the go — I’ve considered taking it with me on my next road trip with my partner to keep our car free of any dust or crumbs.

Apart from its compact size, it’s also a surprisingly powerful hand vac. I was dog-sitting a couple of weeks ago and even had cleaners come over since then to deep-clean my place. It seems like they definitely missed some fur, though, because when I ran this hand vac over my living room carpet, it came back with tons of pet hair.

The vacuum also comes with two attachments — a pet hair tool and a crevice tool — making it easy to maneuver around your home and pick up that tiny cluster of hair you keep missing under your bed.

My personal favorite feature? The one-touch empty button for the dust bin. Once you press it, the dust bin at the back will automatically open, making it easy to dispose of your mess straight into the trash can without getting your hands dirty. It’s easy to keep clean, too — just make sure to wipe it with a damp cloth to get any debris that doesn’t fall straight into the trash can.

As for battery life, it lasts about 20 minutes, give or take, which is nothing to write home about — especially considering the unit takes over two hours to get to a complete charge. Of course, you won’t be using the hand vac for all home cleaning — just spot-cleaning rugs, beds, upholstery and any other spots your larger vacuum can’t tackle — so this is okay. Just make sure always to return your Shark WandVac to the dock when it’s not in use.

Is the Shark WandVac worth it?

For a vacuum that is so compact that it fits into that hidden corner of your home and delivers powerful suction, enough to nab pet hair, food crumbs and any other messes hanging about, this vacuum is very much worth its price. You can also currently shop it on sale for $89.99 — a 31% discount on this must-have cleaning product.

How I tested

I have tested vacuums for over five years now, including everything from corded to cordless picks. For this review, I incorporated the Shark WandVac into my daily routine for two weeks, testing the battery life, suction power and its overall maneuverability across my one-bedroom home. I also tested how easy it was to keep clean, and whether it lived up to the hype of being lightweight enough to be portable.

How long does the Shark WandVac last?

This hand vacuum has a run time between 10 and 20 minutes in total and takes about 2.5 hours to charge to full.

How do I clean the Shark WandVac?

Apart from emptying the dust cup, make sure to clean any leftover dust from the brush roll in particular (I found some pet hair stuck on mine). You can also clean the dust cup itself and also make sure to clean the filters monthly if you can.
